The brakes on the sv were bad enough to bleed but on my speed four are worse. Fitted new lines and one man bleed kit. Nothing came through from the res. Dropped the lines off the master cylinder and a small amount of fluid came out but didn't seem like a great deal. so I filled thw res and left the lever cable tied over night and still no difference in fluid level. I have ordered a hand pump bleeding kit and new master cylinder parts. Can someone please point out what I missed?

Rather than pumping the lever try squeezing the rubber reservoir link pipe hose it works better than the lever method.

Describe exactly the method you use for bleeding.

Easiest way is with a big syringe and some clear hose. I bought a kit like this from ebay and did the job easily and in double quick time.

Exact method
1. Fill res with fluid, crack left caliper bleed nipple put one man bleed on the end and watch for fluid to come down and air escape by pumping. Fluid was settling at the bottom about 1/4 of res then fluid didn't drop any further. bought new one man kit same issue. 2. Disconnected lines and tried pumping against my finger covering where lines connect onto cylinder. Not that much pressure or fluid coming through. 3. Filled the res put everything back together and left lever cable tied overnight. no change in res level after left overnight. The main thing from reading those threads is I cant get fluid out the master cylinder with the lines disconnected which points at a ropey master cylinder but it all worked ok before changing the lines Last edited by thefallenangel; 16-04-14 at 08:40 PM. |

Firstly put the one man bleed thingy in the bin - they're more bother than help. Then do this:
1. Open bleed nipple on caliper, pull brake lever back to bar at modest speed - don't snap it. 2. Close nipple, wait a count of three then slowly release the lever. 3. Do that some more. When the system is empty it can take some time for the ever-so-slight vacuum produced by the release of the lever to pull fluid through. When the system is full the resultant depression is significantly higher. The one man bleeder valves rely on completely air tight threads on the nipple or air will be drawn back into the system on master cylinder release, which loses you the vacuum when you're filling the system, and pulls air back into the fluid when it's full.
