I got mine on the dyno, runs at 74bhp,on the road its plenty.
I feel a faster bike I would gather some points rather quickly, end of the day its how you feel riding the bike,it can be a lot of fun, just got to use the rev range. Cheap to run & ins is an added bonus.............. |

It all depends what you want to do with the bike.
I have had an SV650S "X", the curvey model, and she was fine for what I needed at the time. The bikes I have now are an SV1000S (118bhp) and a 2008 R6 (133bhp.) I use the Thou' for touring on as it has a Sat Nav and full luggage kit, but, it has me and my girlfriend on it then so I need to power and torque of a "big" v-twin. Whereas I use the R6 for messing about on, you can't use all of the power all of the time, but, when you can it is a riot. I bought the bikes I wanted so I could do what I wanted on them. If you're happy with your 650 and she has enough power for you why waste your money buying bikes you won't enjoy? |

On the road it's as much about available torque.
The SV engine is good in this area. But I enjoy the 675 combination of power and torque.

I tuned mine for more top end power for the track, but on the road it's near-pointless as I don't weigh much. Maybe if you're a big dude then it's like riding with a pillion all the time but really it's not a slow bike - try riding back to back with other bikes on the road and you won't see a lot of difference, though it doesn't feel like you're really trying.

I really struggle to enjoy the SV650 on motorways, but from everything I've read from other users, I ride my SV rather differently from others.
Most gears I'll only ever sit between 3k and 4k, when I hit 4k I shift up unless I'm in fifth or sixth, or if I'm acting like a hooligan. I like the soft throttle response before it hits that 4.5k power, and on motorways it just feels exhausted the entire time ( this is without the restriction mind you ). The SV makes an excellent bike for somebody with a restricted license, I'm thinking of a Triple or something more adv touring styled like a Tiger or GS for when I can spoil myself. |

Do you need more than 70bhp? No.
Do you want more than 70bhp? Hell yeah!
