Default intermittent relay issues please advise

Hi I have a 2002 naked SV. Boy do I love the bike. I am having electrical woes tho.

The problem is connected to the relay I had the RAC out and he diagnosed a broken wire into the relay connector spliced a connector in and it worked for a while I ordered a fresh relay in case this was at fault.

This is the most horrid intermittent fault that randomly shuts the bike down.

Yesterday this happened in the Blackwall tunnel it was not ideal.

I wiggle and prod the relay plug and the wires and lights come back and bike starts and some kind of random countdown begins till it happening again.

It must have a broken wire? or a loose cable the plug looks OK.

Is it telling that the bike shuts down entirely ?

some times driving along the bikes lights fade and it will backfire. I suppose this is the connection flickering about.

Many thanks for your kind attention and assistance.

i take it your on about the starter relay?

its a common problem that the main fuse gets a bit work hardened/fractured or becomes loose in its holder so first things first change the main fuse and make sure that its a good connection on both spade ends. while your at it check the battery terminals are nice and clean and tight and the connections on the posts on the relay are nice and tight. after that your looking at tracing back in each direction of the positive and negative wires and making sure they are not fractured and connected nice and tight to where they should be.

Do you mean the multiplug on top of the relay ? 5 wires I think... If so I had the same issue on my curvy, it will kill all power to the dash, lights etc.

Best bet is to try and trace each wire back looking for damage and splice in new bits of wire if needed. Or get a new loom

Thanks for your super quick responses.
I had a cable tie across the fuse to keep the connection tight. It is quite rigid. playing with the wires does get it running and the power flickering.
I have tentativley worked this out.
in the connector to the main relay for the red cable the housing is damaged the metal plug on the wire does not click into position
It can be removed or loosened just by pulling on it it must be working loose.
I have cable tied this in for the time being and I have bought a replacement (it was cheaper to buy the whole loom than the part!)
thanks alot.
regards
