I bought one of these yesterday, after awhile it finally accepted my wifi code. Only took about 20 goes. However it was still saying something about an initial update. It was doing this for about 1/2 an hour. There was however no progress bar or anything. I got fed up and turned the telly off as i'd left it till about 11 last night to try.
Fellow Orgers, any of you purchased this irritating thing. How long does the update take. Should there be a progress bar? And final question. As the stick is powered externally - no USB on the back of the telly. Would the update happen with the TV off? |

May not help you with your situation but my Sky box was struggling to stay connected via wireless so I invested in the power socket thingies. One is upstairs beside the router plugged in to one of its ethernet ports and another is plugged in by the tv/boxes allowing a wired solution via the ring main. Reception and connection are excellent and it's not very expensive.

Have you tried switch your router off and on again?
No. seriously have you tried changing the channel your router broadcasts on? I changed mine and it improved a lot. I think next door changed their router and then clashed with mine. My sons Fire Stick was really slow when he got it but mine was great, however I had extended the WiFi network in the meantime and sorted out my airports. |

Thanks for the comments, sir Trev I'll have to look into those. Red ones, does turning on and off change the channel? I just have the router sky gave no buttons but reset. Sorry not my area of expertise. Unless it's swearing at technology then I'm at a loss.

I think most if not all newer routers scan for the clearest channel on start up, but once set they stay there. If something new appears in the area then it can't change to a different channel.
Otherwise I'd try extending the network. I've never tried the plug in things but I'll take Sir Trevs word for it. I'm just an Apple fan and love AirPorts. |

Powerline plugs are good for connecting things like Sky boxes, PS3's, Ps4's up, better and more reliable than WiFi. Plus plug and play in my experience, so no messing about with configuring them.
Also handy for having an internet connection in the garage, if its remote from the house like mine. You can access the Sky router settings and mess about with the channel frequencies I think, but its not something I've done. The manual tells you how to access it. Also handy for rebooting the router, if it starts getting a bit flaky.

Checked with sky today to see if I could upgrade to a better package. Bugger. Apparently I'm on the best one. Looks like I need some of those plug boosters.

Get them, Sky routers WiFi strength isn't the best, and unfortunately you're stuck with their router.
They were giving away free WiFi boosters, but that offer has stopped too, you need to pay for the booster now.

Plugs wont help with the firestick as it doesnt have an ethernet socket, unless you are using the plugs to extend the network to another router/repeater
The plugs are brilliant though, I use them to take internet from the router downstairs to my gaming PC upstairs, absolutely faultless. |
