Hi everyone,
until i get my towbar electrics done i cant do track days or buy more bikes ![]() I have a 2009 facelift 5 door 1.6 petrol audi a3. (have installed rs3 headlights) I have fitted a towbar to my car but not yet done the wiring for it. what are peoples recommendations, and kits to get a 7 pin trailer board socket. i have seen some universal ones for £50 but thinking about the coding probably a bad idea. I have a vagcom which i used to programme the car for the headlights so i can do the coding myself. But witht eh dealer wanting £350-400 just for the wiring to be done seems a bit steep and im not exactly wanting to throw that kind of money away. anyone got any advice? please move this thread if its not in the right place thanks in advanced kevin daglish |

Just use a 7 way relay, got one of these on my 5 series.
Take the outputs off the lamp connectors, and this switches 12v from a live to the relevant bulbs on the trailer. Doesn't draw enough current to upset the CANBUS bulb out stuff either. Think my kit cost me about £20? Not expensive. |

You could drop a PM to NTECUK. I think he fits tow bars where he works, he may be able to advise.

just get the kit for your car (if your not towing a caravan you dont need a split charge) or just go to your local towbar centre.

We do tow bars at work. You could always pop to our depot at Gatwick or give them a call for a quote.

I did mine with a 7-way relay rather than pay the extra for a dedicated kit. It's not as quick as the plug and play option, but as I enjoy tinkering it was worth the saving.
