Default Battling John Lewis

This is almoxt starting to become funny.
I ordered a PURE CD/DAB player (Made in UK) from John Lewis and they sent me 2. They are £179 each.

I contacted them and received thanks for my honesty and got the information on how to return the second item, which I did. No problem.

Today, I received an email informing me that they are processing my refund for the returned item.

I hurriedly wrote an email telling them I'm not entitled to a refund, sent it and almost immediately received another email telling me I should have the refund by today.


Never have I found it so hard to give back something I'm not entitled to.


Edit: bank just notified me that refund is being processed. This honesty thing is proving to be a lot of work.

Well done for trying, but ultimately don't feel bad if they pay you the refund. It's their corporate ****-up.

Following on from Seekers post. Today the post contained a letter from Halifax for the lad. He has been gone from here for over 8 years. He has told them m that he no longer uses the account. The wife has been into the local branch (When it was open and told them the same but still the nil statements roll on in. Is it a problem? well we both hate unnecessary waste.

John Lewis seem to have finally caught up and have asked (!) me if I will accept being billed for the £179 that they inadvertently refunded me. I'm not sure what would have happened if I had said no.

I have no idea how big their departments are but there are now three of them involved - customer service, shipping/stocking and finance (haven't spoken to them yet).

Your honesty and effort in helping them correct their mistake must surely be worth at least voucher to be used against future purchase? Or maybe they don't value their reputation?

Hats off to you for 'doing the right thing' just because it's the right thing - sadly getting rarer nowadays.
