How much!!! Your bike just needs rejetting! I'd shop around for quotes you should be able to get it do for no more than £100.

It is probably a good idea to have it tuned on the dyno but i am a freak about making sure every thing works perfect i guess that comes from being an aircraft mechanic where good enough is not good enough so i know i would

Should def. get it cheaper than that, I reckon around 150 is a reasonable price, it cost me 100 pounds the last time I took my srad in.

I've got a full Akra on mine. Runs fine. Even with the stubby on. I wonder if its leaking air somewhere. Maybe the person who fitted it didn't use new exhaust gaskets. Or is it after your spill? Might need to take it off and put it back on again in case it got a bit twisted and one of the slip-on joints is leaking.
Does sound excessive for a jet job. How about the guys BIKE mag use in Peterboro. BSD is it? |

Yeah, backfires is usually either rich (which yours ain't, unless it's broken
![]() A quick rule of thumb for the SV... Pope it into 3rd and cruise at 4000, 5000 and 6000rpm, get the revs stable. Then crack it wide open as hard as you can. It should pick up pretty much immediately. If it hesitates much at all, then you're probably a shade lean, but what you're really feeling for is a stumble or long hesitation- that'll tell you that the main jets are too small. It's not perfect but it's a fairly handy measure. Quoting £300 at this point is just not on IMO, since you don't know what if anything wants done. It'd make good sense to get it run, but a single run shouldn't usually cost more than £30 with the a/f mix rig running- that'll tell you most of what you need to know. I pay £10 myself, but my tuner guys find me amusing ("It's the guy with the race rep girly bike, hur hur hur) so I get a discount ![]()

cheers guys, the popping and backfiring doesnt bug me at all, i think it sounds great but dont think the police would agree!
Its just that i was told i could be damaging my engine as full systems usually make a bike run lean? |

I've read that a quite a few people on here experience this with a full system and it's not too much to worry about.
It shouldn't pop if it's lean as the pop is just unused fuel fumes igniting. Will be a tad rich or a tiny air leak as already mentioned. My pointy does it and I think it sounds geat, even did it next to a copper the other day but he just smiled at me. Mine only does it after i've been taking it east round town for a couple minute at low revs but once I open her up it hardly does it at all ![]() |
