Default Rear ended a CLK this morning, help!

Do not take your eyes off the road in front, ever, not even to check your tank bag is on straight. Sounds easy ad after 5 years of riding without an incident with another vehicle I thought I'd got it sorted.

This morning I didn't brake in time and had a very low speed contact with a Merc CLK. At first glance thought I'd done his boot, bumper and rear light cluster on the right hand side plus chipped the paint on the rear right hand pannel, but turned out he'd been rear ended 3 days previously. So I just did his rear right hand light cluster, and chipped the paint on the right hand side.

he said he'd call me this evening regarding sorting it out for cash, but any ideas what the financial cost is? My bike's ok and I really don't want to go through my insurers, can't tell you the year of the car as it was on a custom plate but looked rather new. Should I phone my insurers? as I get the feeling if he calls before I do I'll be well in the sh*t.

Ride safe people

He'll probably claim it on the previous rear-ender anyway and just wants some extra cash, so don't go overboard with the readies. Offer him £50, say you're broke (and perhaps even suggest, as er you're not sure, that your insurance has run out - ahem ). If it'd been undamaged before you hit it, then obviously it would be a different matter.

Good thinking greg but unfortunatly I didn't hit in quite the same place as the last bloke, the rear light cluster and pannel were ok before I assulted them with my wing mirror and clutch leaver.

Ah well, we shall see what the dammage is....

Might well be worth asking him for the name of his insurer and the policy number. Perhaps something along the lines of "although I don't intend to claim on my policy, I thought I'd better tell my insurer, and they want to know." You never know what that might flush out.

After all, why should it matter to him whether you or your insurer stump up? (I know it matters to you and your NCD).
