Default failure to relicense

Does anyone know what the hell this means? i got a letter stated i owe £40 +£10 arrears for my old bike which i wrote off a few months ago.

Im not sure what they mean by relicense, it was taxed for the year when i bought it, and i was the first owner so it was registered to me.

when i wrote the bike off i sent the tax for for a refund, does this have anything to do with it? the date stated doesnt even come close to the crash...

on the back it says:

did i dispose of the bike
did i have it relicensed? (if so, then where)

once i crashed the bike it became the property of my insurance compy i believe, they have taken it away now anyway. i didnt send the v5 off though as they only took it yesterday.

any help would be great. Cheers

Dan

Because you didn't send the V5 off, you are liable for the tax... You could write/ring them & explain the situation, but when the rules for Vehicle excise licensing changed, they became quite strict with the issuing of fines... The fact that the bike was written off is a plus point...

Worth a try though

What you do is wring them and tell them that effictivly it has changed hands and the v5 will be filled in by the insurance company, im as confused as you are, the ppl at the dvla are more friendly than thier letters!

cheers.

I returned the letter stating i settled at the start of august and that the bike effectivly became my insurance companys. Hopefully this will be the end of it, but i doubt it.

Time will tell.

Was the letter definitely official. Sounds like one of those scams. Todays theiving scums are getting ever-more clever with their ways of robbing us - using very offficial looking documents is one of their new fangled ways.

hhmmm, well il look into it but all i can say is it was just like any other letter i have received from them.

I dont think it was a fake tbh, it wasnt very forceful and i didnt send any money anyway. we'll see.

It's official. That's the wording they use when the Continuous Registration Dept can't find a SORN or tax for a cage/bike still registered to you. I've got a car off the road at the mo, and SORNed it, but the Birmingham DVLA lost it. Lucky I had kept a photocopy, and when I sent it off to the Continuous Reg people they quite happily accepted the evidence and cancelled the fine - good luck with yours.
