Default Neutral found at 70mph

Has this happened to you?
Travelling down the A38 last night doing 70-80mph. Traffic got worse so I slowed and drop a gear. Suddenly found I had no gear at all. Seems to have found neutral between 5th and 6th, but the neutral light didnt come on. Very odd. Changed up, found 6th and alls well since.
Is this something that I should worry about?

It's called a false neutral. It's a pain when it happens but I haven't found it to be too common on the SV, and I've heard not common on Suzukis in general.
I wouldn't say it's a problem as such. I think it's most likely to happen when you do a change and the load on the gear boxes changes while you're changing.
I did it between 2nd and 3rd at about 60 while accelerating hard, that was unpleasant.

It's called a 'False Neutral', it isn't really a neutral at all, as you change from each gear to the next, the previous must be disengaged before the next is engaged, there is a moment when no gear at all is driving, if the gear selector mechanism gets stuck there, voila, you've just found one.

Just about every constant mesh - ie bike - gearbox will do this if you try, (don't), some more than others, some when new and tight, some when they get worn, if it normally works fine, don't fuss over it, it was probably just a gearchange executed with less than your normal zen like precision.

I've managed to hit one between 5th and 6th a few times. Very annoying, especially if you're trying to accelerate hard...

I've had dozens of them - annoying but not much else.

It has happened to me once on the sv.

My old Guzzi used to do it all the time (Guzzi trait apparantly) very disconcerting but I learned to be more positive with the gear change and then it rarely did it.

Nor me, I guess it must the "zen like precision" gear changing that Sid was on about
