When I bought my used SV, the owner didn't have the spare ignition key.
I have "mislaid" the one key I did have. Am I now entering a world of pain......or what? What am I to do! Would appreciate any technical advice / pained experiences from others who have suffered this! |

Never done it myself.
BUT i think you may have trouble starting it now! ![]() On the other hand, swapping the igition barrel should be possible. The seat on the other hand may be a tad difficult. |

If you have the numbers for the keys you should be able to obtain replacements from somewhere.

With the VIN the dealer can order you a key, they will require some type of proof of ownership of the bike, call them for details.
A locksmith should also be able to make you a key but that will probably be more expensive. |

Keys Galore in Primrose Hill has ( I think he done it on a friends er-5 a few years ago) been known to cut keys buy measuring the inside of the barrel etc, will probably need proof of ownership but it might be worth giving him a call on 020 7586 9741

If your bike is nicked the the insurer might want proof that you own both sets of keys. Norwich Union certainly do. I'm not sure what they'd do if you only have one set. Surely the idea of giving you two sets is so that you have a spare if you lose one.

I believe (in the insurers' befuddled thinking) that by being able to produce both original keys, you can prove that you didn't leave a key in the ignition and thus making you culpable. But I agree, I always considered the second key as a replacement, that is until I read (and immediately used) the recent tip in MCN which was have a spare made up, use it and stitch an original into your jacket lining. Useful in a lost key situation or when proving your case to an insurer

There's a complete lock set on eBay for around 40 quid.
Can I buy your useless ignition from you if you get it please? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=7935053265 |

My dads a master locksmith, get me the VIN number and I'll have you one cut (of the record). Should be able to do the Suzuki keys as he can do all cars. I'll find out tomorrow.
