I'm a newbie to bikes...1st year riding my SVS...absolutely love it!!! however, now that i'm confortable with it, i'm looking at getting a few more ponies out of it...i've leared lots from this forum!!! thanks everyone!!!
I'd like to get a slip on exhaust, but i really can't justify spending 300-500US on it. This may be a stupid question, but what's to stop me from buying a less expensive aftermarket exhaust for another bike any putting it on my SVS. For example, i've seen GSXR exhausts on ebay for less than 100$. any help in educating me woule be appreciated. |

The pipes will be a factor.. a GSXR in general uses a 'bolt-on' zorst.. so that is definatly no good... but some may fit... but as i say depends on the link pipe...
you can get cheaper zorsts than $300us... Art at the moment over here in the UK are going for £75 which is about $120... can't see why you won't be able to get one shipped over... |

I don't know whether a GXR- exhaust will be less restrictive or not but I found this How To on svrider.com:
Tips & Tricks / How to's MUFFLERECTOMY Date: Saturday, November 9, 2002 From: Roger Pennington Anyone who owns an SV650 knows that the stock muffler makes the engine sound like a lawnmower. If you want better sound without the expense of aftermarket exhaust and rejetting, go down to the local hardware and pick up a drill bit extension (approx. 13" long) and a good quarter inch steel cutting bit. Chuck the extended bit into your drill and insert it into the end of the muffler until it bottoms against the inner baffle plate. Carefully drill through the baffle in three or four equally spaced places (use a flashlight). Don't worry about the shavings since they will be trapped or blown out and cannot reach the motor. Add holes till you get the amount of sound you want. You won't believe how much better it will sound with no loss in performance. Later on, when the piggy bank is fat, spring for a slip on and rejett with a K&N filter. It's worth the price in performance gains, believe me! It might be worth a shot. I'm also looking to change my exhaust, but i'll wait untill I have the money to buy an Akrapovic titanium one. Might I suggest having a look in the exhaust section near the bottom of the forum index page. Great tips and word of mouth there. |

Not sure if this works for the older models, but try fitting a tank raising kit and removing the 'snorkel' air intake.
You'll get a bit of an increase in hp due to easier airflow, and a big increase in induction noise when accelerating ![]() Best thing is that removing the snorkle is free (can also be put back in, or replaced with one from the SV1000 which has 4 channels as opposed to 2 - have a look at it and you'll see what I mean - I've got some photo's if you want to have a look) Tank raising kit is essentially some washers to raise the tank up 1/2 inch or so & longer bolts to fit the original holes.
