Default Fender Extender?

Hey everyone,

I was just thinking whether or not I needed a fender extender. I can see some of you right now yelling at your monitors, 'YES!'. But, I do not do alot of wet riding, if any at all, so that's why I have basically ignored them. Though, I was just reading about one and it said '...protect your under carrage from grim.'. I have never thought of that. So will it be worth my money to buy one to keep the underside of my bike clean of road grim and tar from splashing onto the engine? Thanks for the advice in advance,

Mitch

Surely you mean grime

Get one

I don't ride in the wet (if I can help it,) but the front fender extenda stops the rad, oil cooler & front of the engine getting covered in crap & peppered with stones when you ride IMHO...

Well worth the money

I never bothered.
I rode in all weathers and covered nearly 10,000 miles in the past year.
I objected to the look of them which I found incredibly ugly (at least, all the ones I have found are!), IMHO, of course! Although, if I had experienced running problems, I would imagine I would have bought one!!

(The only time it misfired was when I'd jet-washed it a little over-zealously on my drive and it took a fair bit of effort to 'dry her out!')

So, the decision is entirely yours!!

Have to agree with Cloggsy. In my few days of owning a bike I have to say it helps keep the bike clean and they don't cost more than £20 so there's no point in not having one!

Hey,

Thank you for all your advice and opinions. I think the counter-question I have for Coombest is that are you picky about your bike looking clean? I mean silver has to reflect the sunlight just right so I like her nice and shiny. I think I will invest in one sometime. Anyone got a used one? Or links to where I can get one? I might keep an eye on eBay... don't need it till... March when the snow is gone...

I used to be incredibly picky!! (I used to wash, soap & chamois her after every ride!!)
However, this did fade a little and I tended to let her get pretty mucky before washing her in the end. The down pipe I was never incredibly bothered about either!
I just thought that even if the bike was a bit mucky it looked better than with a piece of matt black plastic stuck to the end of my lovely shiney blue front mudguard!!

Hey,

Why not get the extender sprayed to match the colour of your bike? That crossed my mind actually. I am planning on getting a few parts sprayed this winter so that might be one of them.

Great idea... But it's going to cost you a fair few $'s to get the extenda sprayed - But if you're having other bits done at the same time... What the hell

Faaaaaaar too much hassle & expense for me, I'm afraid!!!
Although that sounds a prefectly good idea, as well as a way of making it look better!!
