Default newbie - Just ordered a SV650 K5

well 2 things i've done this weekend.
1. finally registered on this excellent site. i must say, i have been looking at it since passing my test in Oct. and would like to say that it has been a wealth of useful info for me when wanting to find out all there is to know about the SV650.

2. Went to my local Suzuki dealer at the weekend and done a deal for a new SV650 K5. I don't really want it until the beginning of March although the guy informed me that i would probably have it in mid Feb.
I plan to use it purely for pleasure on those hot sunny days we all dream of and to be honest, to say i am a little nervous would be an under statement. i mean, just passed test, brand new bike, am i mad or what??

i was also set on the K4 (Blue with silver) and then the not so nice K5 came out. but, having seen them in the flesh in the faired version, i have grown to like the black frame. even though i sense most on here still prefer the silver frame and wheels. i reckon it is the initial shock of the change and that people will become more acceptable to it.

Anyway, any advice for a newbie with a newbie will be most appreciated

The most important question, what colour is it?
If it's black, then you're entirely forgiven for getting a K5, if they'd been announced properly by the time I bought my K4 I might have been tempted to wait.
As far as just passed and getting a brand new bike, I wouldn't worry about that too much, but you will want to take things very easy for a while.

Anyway, welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site

As for advice as a new rider, just don't get to confident too soon, especially at this time of year. Enjoy your bike.

Oh and for the record, I am not one of those that doesn't like the new frame colour. I think it is great, especially on a black coloured bike.

I only like it on a black bike, but then, I don't like any other colour bike, so that's probably my main issue.

i've ordered it in blue.
must say i am still in 2 minds whether or not to go for blue or black.
sales rep said i could have a look at the black when 1 comes in and change my order if i wanted.
for the moment i'm sticking with the blue.

black for me = too much black
need to show off the hugger, undertray etc.
all on my wish list and currently sussing out the varous makes out thier.
for the hugger i really like the Ermax, undertray ????

OH and crash bungs......bikesliders seem to be the ticket

surely blue is the quickest anyway

There's no such thing as too much black, it's just impossible.
I don't know about undertray, cos I fitted a hamicad fender eliminator.
Be careful with the hugger, I expect the K5 has the toolbox in the same place as the K4 does, in which case alot of huggers can touch it. I've also heard that the rear brake hose is routed differently on the K4 and probably the K5, and this can cause problems.

Dont worry about it mate, just enjoy your bike. I passed my test last Thursday and picked my new K4 up yesterday, its the type of bike that inspires confidence because it is so easy to ride, I feel so relaxed on it already and have only done about 50-60 miles on it. At least if you get it in spring the roads should be a bit better for you.
