Default squeaking brakes

if the brakes squeal when i pull the front one does this mean they are on the way out or something else?

It could be a sign that the brakes are worn. If I am not mistaken they are designed to "squeal" when they are due for replacement. But it could also just be crap and stuff on the disks. It is possible for them to squeal if it hasn't been run for a few days and a bit of rust has developed on the disks. A few braking manoeuvres will soon rid you of the squeal. I guess the easiest way is a visual check of the pads, and the fluid level in the reservoir.

My rear brakes squeal even if I dab them and my bike is brand new and I've only done about 400 miles on it, so I don't think it means they're on the way out. They do help me stop fine and it is going in for its first service very soon anyway so I wasn't too worried as I was going to let the dealer fix it. I do remember reading something in the handbook about taking some sandpaper to the pads and disks on this but I'm not exactly sure.

Squealing brakes are normally due to the pads moving against the piston and / or the backing plates.

To cure it, remove the pads and apply some copper grease to the back of the pad, Yes the Back make sure the edges of the pads are free from crud too, When the pads are out use an aerosol brake cleaner, one which evaporates rather than the oily based cleaners.

Make sure you do not get grease on the discs or the friction material, because that normally ends in a huge bang

Sometimes if you fit new pads against worn discs it may squeal too, but normally this will wear off as the pads bed in
