I think I have just started to get my 1st problem on the SV
![]() I went out for a ride at lunch time and getting the bike to change gear has been very patchy, fine some times and a struggle other times. Parked the bike up to give it a squirt with around the linkage rod to see if that would sort it out and found what I 'think' might be the problem. The gear selector arm seems to be very loose on the spindle that it rotates up and down on (I hope that makes sense) I can see a nut behind it which I would pressume tightens the whole thing up and stops it wobbling, but I cant get a spanner in. Do I have to take the circlip off the front and then everything else to get to the bolt or is there an easier way? p.s. I'm not sure this is what the problem is ![]() Below is the bit that I mean ![]() |

Mine came off at that bolt!
If you look round the back of the head with that cover on (the one you need the special pliers to remove the horseshoe shaped thing- I forget what they're called) there is a hex bit to take a spanner-type tool, but it's too thin to get it done up tight (or, get a spanner in there to loosen it). General consenus amongst myself, another biker who stopped to help and an AA man was that it needed a special tool, or to take the horseshoe off. Rather than risk ending up with bits in a pile, I used a spanner (size 17, I think)on the hex to get it "tight enough" to get home, then took it to the dealership. I don't think that'll help you get it off (to tight by the sound of it) though... |

I broke the gear peg off altogether. My dad came to pick me up, got on the bike, i manually cahnged the gear into second with my hands, an then he drove it all the way home, about 10 miles. Just get it into second and you'll be fine
