Default Tax disc

Hi all,

A really daft question I know, I bought one of those tax disc holder jobby's yesterday, but apparantly they're not totally waterproof

The question is, where on the bike do you normally put the thing?
As someone was telling me that there's a legal requirement for it to be placed near the front or summat

Cheers

Mass

You could try covering the tax disc in tape or something. Another thing I do sometimes is get it laminated. If you can find a place that will do it, unless you have your own laminator.

Wouldn't worry about waterproof, the ink on the tax disc is.
I hope it doesn't have to be near the front, mine came at the rear when I bought the bike new & it's still there. Never had a problem (apart from it working loose & scratching the hell out of the swingarm.

I don't think that there's a legal requirement for them to be near the front. Many bikes have them attached to the side. Laminating the disc will waterproof it and also stops theiving scum from altering the details on it.

take a picture of it with a digital camera - that way it it gets stolen (all too common in London ) you can save the hassle & cost of getting a legitimate replacement, which I think is about £15

it's usual to have it on the left hand side of the bike - that way coppers doing checks can see it as you go past - in London if they're doing this & can't see it as you go past, you'll get pulled in 100 yards further down the road by the snatch squad

I wouldn't bother about laminating or making it waterproof - if the traffic wardens can't read the number on it, then they can't legally issue you with a ticket, as the Soho Massive have been finding out

Is that only if the numberplate is obscured too?

I heard yesterday about a crashed scooter that was ticketed whilst its rider was being treated for a broken leg by paramedic.

my understanding is that the traffic wardens have to note down your road tax licence disc number in their logbooks in order to make any tickets valid

there is a legal requirement fo it to be located in a visible position on the front half of the bike!! Although the only time they would notify ya is if you got pulled over (i.e. for speeding) and then they would inform you. But they would never pull ya over just for it. I know this cos my step dad is a sageant but they dont really care. One time there was an issue of a traffic cop pulling sopmeone over for not having a chain guard but my dad informed them ya only need it for the MOT. There are so many quirky laws out there.

(BTW - Mine is attached to the chainguard bolt on the swinging arm and never been informed about it. The most you would get is a quick word of where it should be)

Went out for a few scoops in town after visiting the Manchester bike show on Sunday. Saw one of their new traffic wardens park up his scooter and ticket a car dropping off passengers/cases outside the midland hotel. Car had only just stopped whilst the driver opened his boot.

Traffic warden would not listen to reason. ticketed the poor guy and took digital photos of the car, ticket applied etc.

Question when he stops his scooter to ticket somebody should he not also be ticketed himself as he is then breaking the same parking restriction?

Hmmm, but isnt that like having a can with the baffle removed or worn tyres? Sure you might have had the baffle in and enough tread at the MOT, but that doesnt mean you've got a road worthy vehicle.
