Default Maxston Springs

I have recieved maxston springs a couple days ago and I have a few question I hope some of you guy's could answer for me.

1)At 15st with riding gear on they have sent .9kg rate springs and recommened 15wt oil is this right.

2)If I loose a stone or 2 (diet working) will this **** the front up and make it too hard?

3)The spacer that comes with the spring, is that to replace the standard spacer or to go in as well. Also do you need to put something between the spacer and spring or will it be ok

1) Sounds about right. There's a table on the Racetech site somewhere that you can use for a second opinion
2) It'll seem stiffer if you lighten up but shouldn't cause a real problem. You'll still be closer to the correct spring rate than the stock ones were...
3)Dunno, what does it look like? Toilet roll?

Hum. No, don't know what that's for- I'd call Maxton and check. Though I predict that it's to go on top of the spring and replace the standard spacer that the preload adjuster pushes on, I wouldn't neccesarily go ahead on that assumption. Interesting, most places just give you the springs. I reckon that spacer will be a wee bit thicker than the stock one, and for some reaon they feel that you need more preload than you would with stock.

Hi Chris,

I've fitted the same Maxton springs, with pretty much the same situation, so hope that I can answer your questions.

1) This sounds about right, and it's the 15wt oil that will make the difference in the damping. This is what I used, and I'm happy.

2) I was a tad over 14st when I did my forks, and am now 15st due to lack of gym and excessive Christmas over the last 6 months. They're still good, and will always be better than the stock option!

3) The spacer that comes with the fork is to replace the original spacer. This makes the whole length 10mm longer than what you've just taken out in stock parts - for your weight, this is about right, and anything more you need you can dial in using the preload caps - I put in about 12mm, but really this is to taste - you'll probably find you don't need as much!

Hope this helps!

http://www.racetech.com/evalving/Spr...pringType=Fork

long link to the spring rate calc for a naked sv650 '01 (mine) follow links from the main site to alter rider weight and bike year. They worked really well on my VTR and would say they made it feel firmer but still compliant. They also recommend 15w oil and state the standard spring rate as 0.706 kg/mm out of interest.
