Guys -
I just bought a Wolf slip-on exhaust for my 2003 SV650N, and I was told that I may need to get a power commander unit. If I do end up buying one, will I notice a significant increase in power, and do I need to get one? I was told that adding a Wolf slip-on shouldn't require any re-tuning. Also, for all Wolf owners... Does anyone know if I have to cut to install a wolf can? Is it a Y-pipe slip-on? Lastly, even if I don;t need a power commander, would you guys recommend it? What kind of a difference does it make? Thanks! |

You don't need a PC, they're very cool, but just not necessary for an SV. If you've done all the engine type mods (air filters, exhaust, etc) then you might consider getting a remap done.
A remap does the same thing as a Power Commander, but is cruder and can't be readjusted without going back to the garage. You won't notice an enormous power difference, what you'd probably find is taht things are smoother and the torque is delivered in a slightly different rev range. On an SV, all slip ons need the pipe to be cut. |

Add onto that, a Power Commander costs £300 a remap costs about £40. It's a bit of a no brainer for an SV but a GSXR of some sort might well be a completely different matter.

Are you absolutely certain about the cutting? I spoke with the shop that I purchased it from, and he said that it was a Y-pipe slip on, and therefore required no cutting. And, the local dealership said that it shouldn't require any cutting if it was a Y-pipe fit.

If it's a slip on it definitely needs cutting.
I don't quite know what a Y fitting is, but it sounds like it could be a 3/4 system, in which case no cutting would be required. |

I guess it must be a 3/4 system then. The guy said that it was a "y-pipe" (your guess is as good as mine), and that no cuts needed to be made. So, if it is a 3/4 system, should I rethink your initial response about getting that power commander or a remap? Will it be essential then? Sorry to be such a pest, but I'm a worrier by nature. This coupled with my perfectionist attitude, makes for a deadly combo.
Cheers! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

No need to apologise.
No changes on the remap/PC front. Have you got a link to the pipe you've bought? |

This explains what I was talking about, I think. It sounds to me like they include all of the hardware necessary to put it all together without cutting. I think it'll work like a charm! ![]() |

It says they include all the fittings, yes, but it doesn't say whether the SV650 can is a slip or a 3/4 system.
For another of them it does say half system, so I think the SV one is a slip on, in which case it would need cutting. Btw, the pic of an old shape SV has a slip on on. |

Well, I suppose we'll see. So, you don't think that the "fittings" mean that it bolts where the stock one unbolts? I thought that it read that cutting would not be required due to these extra parts added in. What was it talking about when it mentioned "Every silencers comes with all the parts needed to fit it to your bike - for slip on cans that includes the linking pipe in polished stainless or where your original silencer bolts on"? Is this the "y-pipe" that everyone was talking about?
Yeah, I know that it's an older SV on the site. I ordered elsewhere for an 03' |
