Default Road Surfaces - BBC Radio 4 - File on Four

I am still listening - but there is a lot to hear in this programme - some at least specifically about motorcycles - a good programme about a very worrying state of affairs.

Use the listen again on BBC web site.

I heard that programme, Did you listen to that ***** who suggested the rider was going too fast? until he was asked if he was an Advanced motorcyclist. The bloke following the dead rider was an advanced instructor, he said that the rider was following a reasonable line within the limits of the bike and conditions

It certainly is a worrying state of affairs, due to the Blurred effect of the government and their cost cutting measures.

There are too many companies taking profits from shoddy work, look at the railways, look at the utility companies.

yes, just listened to the whole prog. Recommended.

"No-one from the Highways agency was available for comment".

"No-one from the Department of Transport was available for comment".

Imagine my surprise.

I've no issues with cost reductions and efficiency improvements (providing that's what they are), it's the predictable "denial/it wasn't me/it's someone else's fault/no comment/there is no problem" attitude.

FFS if people are dying and being seriously injured due to a simple thing like inappropriate surfacing, then surely to goodness someone in the Government should have the b@ll$ to stand up and say so.

There again while they can blame everything on drivers beaking the "safety" limits and catching them on "safety cameras" and raking in the dosh, what's the point confusing the issue with nonsense about slippy road surfaces.

Damn, there I go again getting all cynical in my old age.

The work is crap on the roads, then to cap it all off when they do road works they cannot be bothered to collect all the gravel they dug up, so they throw it over the road. It is worst near the lights. I was in the city earlier, three sets of lights were littered with the stuff. I nearly went in to the back of a car and nearly droped it on the road. My hand went in to ABS mode to try to stop me, thank god it worked.
