Default New Biker New SV650S

Hi Everyone,

Finally, after sorting out my DAS, I've got my new SV650S. I am going to be an all weather rider, as I commute to work. I am wanting some tips really on keeping my bike in tip top condition. I have purchased an after market Hugger and also purchased the lower fairings. It is left outside but under a stormex all weather cover. I live in Essex, so the weather isn't too bad through out the year. I just want to know if anyone has any recommendations for any other purchases. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P

Welcome.

One way to keep it looking good is to keep it clean especially at this time of year. Try and wash the road salt off as often as you can.

Welcome to the mad house mate!

Wash the salt off as often as possible and use Scottoiler FS365 spray all over. The bike will look the pits, as the salt reacts with the spray to form a barrier, but it washes straight off and the bike looks as good as new

2 words, Fenda Extenda, that should be your top priority, keeps the crap off the engine, and helps prevent the front cylinder from mis/not firing, keeps the spark plug free from crap

Welcome ot the site and great choice on your bike .

My biggest tips would be:

Mod: Fender Extender (basically an extended front mudguard). Aside from keeping mud etc. of the bike, helps keep the front a bit dryer to. They're very cheap, you should be able to get one for under £20 and even someone with v. limited mechanical knowledge/skill (like me!) should be able to fit one without any problems.

Cleaning: Get a tube of Solvol Autosol (Great metal polisher/cleaner) and apply it by scrubbing it on with an old toothbrush, then polish with a rag once clean. Use it regularly on the downpipe (that frontmost pipe that comes out of the engine and goes into the exhaust). It'll probably already be a tarnished copper colour!

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the site! Hope to see some piccies of the baby soon, what colour?

I use Bike spray - every week or before if it gets real mucky. Use the pink stuff to shift the dirt and the black PTFE spray can to cover the entire bike. Then buff off, but leave it wet on the frame and spray the engine with it too - dont worry about the brakes, just make sure you wipe it off with white spirit or meths before riding!

If you leave it on the frame and engine its much easier to clean next time round as it leaves a oily covering. You'll wonder why you did it first as it takes a lot of rubbing on the body work - same bike as yours spec etc - but it comes up a treat - check my link at the bottom..

Oh and leave a little on the rear wheel too.. shifts dirt like nothing else!

Good luck!

Congrats on the DAS and welcome.

Have you had any thought about fitting a scottoiler?
