Default Renegade Air kit

I have ordered a renegade air kit for my K4. It uses a pipercross airfilter and carbon fibre mounting plate. The whole airbox is removed and discarded and hence the 10 bhp increase in power. Booked dino for next week. Will let you all know how she goes.

Nice one BTG - I had one on my 650.

I have just got out the dyno chart for my 650 from when I went up to see Jorge and have the kit fitted in July 2003.

Top end hp was only up by about 1hp, however there was an increase across the range - the biggest increase was at 7000 RPM (4hp increase).

This was on a 2000 model witted with twin rene cans and 10mm tank raisers.

Jorge's dyno charts for a 2003 model show approx 3-4hp increase-

With all due respect to Jorge and the guys at Renegade, I am not sure if you will see a 10hp increase - If you do, then that will be fantastic. I am not sure what additional development work Jorge has done on the airkits since he posted the original dynos.

What you should get however is more power across the rev range, faster acceleration and a fantastic addictive induction roar.

Enjoy it and don't be too concerned with the figures.

PS - where abouts are you getting it dynoed?

I was thinking a 10bhp increase is HUGE

4 or 5 bhp seems more like it TBH...

Thanks for the feedback fella's. You are right about the increase. Up to 5 bhp seems more realistic. Coupled with the devil race can should see a good increase overall. I was informed that I do not need to make any ecu adjustments for fuel scheduling by Alan at renagade. Can you confirm if this is true? I am taking it back there for a dyno run. Is the kit easy to install?

You don't need to but you should. You won't unleash the full potential of the freeer flowing filter/exhaust otherwise.

Er, how on earth do you know. your bikes never seen a dyno

The biggest kick around 4800-6000rpm, and this is where you will notice it. the improvement differs from bike to bike, some getting better results than others. But dynos are dynos and if you are not 100% on reading the resluts they can be misleading.

However, out on the orad is where you will notice any air mod. You will get smoother throttle response, and the increase in the rev range abouve will make the bike feel quicker etc. its a mod worth doing if you have the money. For the record, the old shape SV made on average a 5-6hp gain at the 4800-6000 point, and the new one i believe to be the same.

oh, and then theres the induction roar

BTG

If you are going to Renegade for a dyno then why not get them to fit - their rates are VERY reasonable

What day are you thinking of going up - I have been thinking of going up again for a while and quite fancy a blast up there - via the A272 is usually a good trip (I'll have to leave the plastic at home though as I can't afford the new cans at the moment though ).

If you are going up during the week, and don't mind me tagging along then drop me a PM.
