Just spoke to a guy at Daytonas on Pentonville Road (yes, I should know better!). Conversation went something like:
Me: Hi, I'd like to speak to someone about remapping my K3 SV650 - it's running a bit rich. Them: It can't be done, you'll need to buy a Power Commander. Me: No, it can be done on the stock ECU. Them: (to colleague) He says it can be done using the stock ECU. <phone changes hands> Them: Stock ECU only has a 5% adjustment in it. You'll need a Power Commander to tune it correctly if you've got an end-can and a filter. You'll be running lean and doing damage to your engine and valves. Me: My bike is running rich, not lean - that's a definite, it's using more fuel and I can smell the unburnt petrol in the exhaust fumes. Them: No, they run lean from stock, we want you to have a Power Commander because they're easy and cost lots of money which we make loads of profits from - despite the fact that it's overkill for your bike. Okay.. they didn't actually say the last bit - that was my interpretation ![]() So c'mon... what's the deal. I think they're talking rubbish, as I know others on this site have had their stock ECU remapped with good results in fuel economy and performance. My fuel light came on yesterday after just 83 miles... I've never had it so bad! ![]() Lee - didn't you get yours remapped in London? Advice, suggestions, comments - please.

You can have it re-mapped without using a power commander
![]() They just want your £'s ![]() You need somewhere with a dyno & a Yoshi fuel re-mapping box ![]() Mine will be done in the not too distant future ![]() |

Cut down on the pies Eat more salad ![]() Have a word with Joe, I know Steve Jordan's do this, although it's a bit far for you to go. I thought the ECU could be adjusted at least +/- 15%, and that it would compensate automatically to a degree |

I have a 2.4 litre pickup and that would use less juice... are you sure it's not got a problem? If it was a carb model I'd say the choke(s) stuck open, but not sure what to suggest for the FI model. Has it got a lambda sensor in the exhaust? Is it disconnected/FUBAR? The new can and filter should make it run lean, but obviously yours isn't, it sounds like there is something else going on. Even a bike running fairly rich shouldn't lose that much in the way of mpg. Would it be an **** to put the stock can/filter back and try it out? Any other symptoms, does it run more or less properly?

Im still rather new to the SV650 as i have only had it a month but the K4 doesnt have a lambda sensor so it doesnt run closed loop and wont automatically adjust the fuel.
One thought though, is the temperature being displayed correctly? off the top of my head im sure i read that the bike changed fuel ratios with temp, if the temp sensor was dead that *might* cause it to run with the fuel rich for cold start all the time, but this is just a wild guess. en4rab |

To be honest, my riding conditions have changed, so I accept much of the reduced fuel economy:
- Most of my journey's are now short, so bike runs rich cycle. - Most of my journey's are now in town, lots of stop-start. - Because of the stop-start, there's lots of acceleration going on. - I usually have the throttle mostly open! ![]() Now, this is all going to increase my fuel consumption a lot... but with a can and a filter, I should get it remapped anyway. It was my understanding that the FI ensured that it always over compensated the mixture - running rich, to avoid lean fuel damage to the engine.

The setup is a bit rich from the factory, I think, though. So it's possible for it to stay a bit rich after a new filter and can, I suppose. |
