Default Thank you Mr Squid!

A huge thank you to Ian for interrupting his day yesterday to show me the facts about the brakes on my SV, cleaning them up, and fitting my braided lines as well as a couple of other things.

An opportunity to learn new skills and tricks, as well as the how's and why's from a man with many years experience! Certainly recommended to anyone who's looking to learn about the mechanics of their hardware, rather than just taking it to the dealer, where anything can happen behind the scenes.

Understandably not a free service, but a reasonable price with the peace of mind of getting something done by someone you know!

Thanks Ian, I enjoyed the day, and especially the journey home - now I can finally ride her with a bit of confidence!

Yeah - they look great!

Seriously... noticeable difference yes, but I'm certain that's not directly attributeable to the lines. The calipers were pretty gunged, the pads were filthy and clogged, as were the discs - I'm certain, and I think Ian would agree, that this is where my braking woes lay. Especially with the rear brake.

The new lines look nice, but they were an extravagance. I've never been a hard braker, so my old lines were far from worn.

The braided lines as I'm sure you know, won't improve the power of the brakes where cleaning all the rubbish out of the pads might well have done... but they will definately improve the feel

I took my front calipers off on the weekend and cleaned all the gunk arround the pots. I nearly stuffed it all up when one of the rubber seals nealy poped out.

Would it have ment a brake bleed if it had come out?

I now need to do the same to the rear.

The seal that nearly popped out would have been the dust seal. They are not necessary for the operation of the brake. Before I put a new seal kit in my calipers I took all the dust seals out, or rather they more or less fell out. You would not need to bleed if this happened.
