Default speeding and fines

Alright guys I got caught last week speeding in the car by a forward facing camera ( the nice ones when on the bike). I was doing 35mph in what i thought was 40mph zone, it turns out to be 30mph. Now i have a letter saying they have photographic evidence with me doing 35mph and i need to fill the form in. Frm looking at this web site www.smilecamera.co.uk ( what a **** take oif a name ) it say all they need for a speeding conviction to be valid there are only two requirements - appropriate speed limit signage and evidence that the speed limit was broken. There is no legal requirement to inform a motorist that a speed camera is ahead. Now my point is as the limit in 30mph does it need to be sign posted as the highway code say street lighting, no other limit etc and what fine and points should i expect an what effect on my insurance. anybody got an idea

30 limits should be regularly signposted. A guide is that if you're riding down a road and the turnings off of it have a 30 limit then you know you're in a 40 or above. If in a built up area and there are no sign posts, consider that you're in a 30.

As for points, you'll get three and if you don't challenge it and fill in the NIP then you'll get a £60 fine. Insurance shouldn't be affected if you have no other convictions.

Whatever happened to the 10%+2 rule?Surely you shouldnt be getting done for 35 in a30?I would challenge it on the grounds that your speedo said less and their camera isnt that accurate. They might just back down on one as marginal as that.Good luck and dont let the *******s grind you down.Easy for me to say

It's not a rule (well not a legal one) just a guideline and is totally discretionary. Certainly doesn't apply to speed cameras sadly.

Whoever set it to trigger for 35 is a *******, though.

But surely that would be showing around 37-38 on your speedo? More than enough indication for you to slow down I suggest.

Sorry mate.

3 points and £60 fine I should think. Ask for the evidence but be ready to take the hit. If it is your only offence on your licence it probably won't affect your insurance.

3 points and a £60 fine it is

Take it on the chin and just accept it, no point challenging it, they could fine you more and give you more points..

At the end of the day 5mph over the limit is stll speedng regardless

sorry

Just read that smile link,or some of it,nauseating condescending drivel that it is.Still I must be a real bad person for feeling like I do about it.Im clearly in favour of the wholesale slaughter of innocent children and poor elderly people.Wheres Captain Gatso when you need him?
