Default I Made It...Yippppeeee!

HI all,

Just to let you all know that I made the first run to work this morning on the Blue Cow...
Down the M4 for 123 miles one way

Missed the accident at Reading..just got to see the bumper on the barriers.
I must have filtered through roughly 10 miles of traffic.
(Whoever invented filtering - it's the dogs dangly bits)

My notes to self so far are:

- Cold toes a bit, but not really anything to worry about.
- My neck is a bit sore, must stick head behind screen more
- Heated grips are the B*ll*x
- Ear plugs are a MUST!
- SPADA oversuit - is the b*ll*x - kept the chill off
- Volvo drivers...say no more!
- White van man...as above.
- Must buy tinted / black visor -phew that low sun is a bugga!

Apart from that...GAME ON! superb!...still chuffed to bits...adrenelin still pumpin..can't wait to go home

Are you going to do it everyday in all weathers? If so, respect!

Yep was a bit chilly this morn.

I am intending doing the run every day, weather permitting at first, as I get better and more confident (which I think - you can never learn too much).

I do have the car as backup, but I definately would have been stuck in that traffic at Reading this morning.

Just starting to calm down now...

Neck is still sore though!

The suit is a good choice. Keep a full set of spare clothes and shoes at the office in case you get drenched.

I do a similar (albeit slightly shorter) route along the M4 twice a week. My advice is, wear your spada oversuit (I've got one too- they're a bloody fantastic), if it looks like there's any chance of mist or drizzle (even if it's just cold wear it- the amount of wind chill it prevents is fantastic). Wear it from the start of the journey- you won't bother stopping to put it on once you've started.

Also, if you get cold feet (easy on an unfaired bike), wear cold killers socks. They're excellent.

Glad you made it okay and you're right about the filtering. I used to hate that journey in the car (sometimes crawl fo about 45 minutes if the weather was good and the roads busy), now I'm through the jams in about 10 minutes

RE: Sun- I keep a cheap pair of sunglasses in my jacket pocket- a lot easier to put on/take off at lights/in a layby than a visor. I believe it's also perfectly legal (unlike some darker visors).

Link for the suit.

I can't really say if it's just a shell layer, as it seems to be padded in some areas?? It's lovely n warm though!

And of course my leathers underneath, and Thermals, I was snug as a bug this morn, only place that was cold was my toes.

Glad you enjoyed it Mass

I use the film inserts in my visor as they only cost a fiver each and work very well. Bonus is that they are also entierly legal. I did wear sunglassed a couple of times but i found it difficult to get the arms to stay where they should and at certain angles the sun was gettin all the way to my eyes anyway.

Nice thing with em is that you dont have to carry your legal visor everywhere with you in case you get a tug and because they are held in place by double sided sticky tape its easy to remove and replace. Best place for em when you take em out is in the pocket for your back prtector. Always there if it turns sunny on ya and you can fit it in with the helmet on after a few practice goes.
