Default Insurance deal.....

Just had to post about an amazing quote i've been given (and unsurprisingly accepted) for insurance for my new 650S.

I did the same thing everyone does, trawelled through the back of the mags, followed a few links of of the mcn site and saw the bike team ad on this sites special offers.

Most of the quotes were silly £1000-1350 for a k3 650s, not garaged (private land a/k/a my backgarden), no NCD and 3pt award for my high speed driving skillz.

CIA seemed very competitive at £580 + legal cover & fees but Bike Team Ltd blew them away!

Their quote was (including 25 quid off for enquiring online) was £364 - over a grand cheaper than the quote i had from bennets!

I was so shocked at the price I phoned them up to confirm all the details and it was all sorted. Most surprisingly they don't appear to have any hold music - instead they answered my call straight away, by a REAL person!

I did make a point of mentioning the site and the details in the special offer ad, and I do not know if that made a difference.

Either way, if you're coming up for renewal check them out!

High quotes are a result of industry regulation. You have to tell an insurance company when you get a quote, if you have been refused a quote by another company - and why. This means they need fairly specific reasons for refusing quotes - they can't refuse you just because they don't want to take on your risk unless it is significant.

To get around this, they quote you stupidly high prices, knowing full well that you will not initiate a policy.

Example... I was 21, and I bought a Renault Clio 16v... I ignored my current insurer, and started trawling the adds... pretty soon I had a range of quotes from £1500-£3500! Yes, I kid you not! £3500! I was trying to prepare myself for a significant monthly payment, and then decided to call my current insurer... £800 for the same deal.

There are few things scientific about insurance!

Bennets seem to be rubbish if you don't have any NCB, but I've just racked up my 4th year and they gave me a really good quote.

Oddly enough they were the cheapest for me - £177 fully comp with zero no claims, £250 excess. My 7 years no claims is on another bike, but if I moved it across it was not going to make very much difference.

I guess there is no substitute for spending a day or two on the phone/interweb.... shame as I'd much prefer to be out riding!
