first of all, it,s nice to be back after 12 months or more witout p.c.
still reading about brake problems and as i have sorted mine forever i thought i,d post it. apologies if repeating what someone else has said. for the front brakes it,s dead easy. go to a good engineer,s merchant or fastener supplier an get enough ![]() bolts) about 80mm long. cut them to length, leaving the allen head on. drill the hole for the "R" clip, which is the hardest part, thoroughly de-burr and taper end slightly and thats it. when it,s time to remove them, just stick an allen key in and twiddle and out it pops. the rear one is more difficult as the pins are 5.5mm dia. so the caliper needs drilling to 6mm. it depends on if you think it,s worth the hassle with the rear one. i service my brakes religiously every couple of months as it,s dead easy with the st/st pins |

new calipers
I have found that if you pay a dealer to do your work, it's cheaper to replace calipers as a whole unit than to pay dealer rates to rebuild them |

That's a stunning plan, and will be carried out on my rear brake in the very near future, thanks

Neat fix, careful drilling the little 1.7mm hole for the R pin!

I just stripped the two rear calipers i have lying around at home, and intend to rebuild them using this method.
By de-burr i assume you mean removing the threads etc. or are you buying bolts with a smooth section on them and cutting off the threaded bit? Also as i'm on the topic, where's a good place to buy the piston and dust seals, the old ones on both calipers are destroyed. |

This is exactly the same as the GSXR K3-4 rear brake, instead of pins it has one allen bolt in the middle holding the pads in.

Anyone got an answer to my question before this devolves into a caliper comparison game. |

Seems that Flamin_Squirrel also says that the SV K3-4 brakes are like that. I guess that suzuki realised that the old brake design was a problem and changed it from its K3 bikes onwards. Hence SV K3 & GSXR K3 brakes have the allen bolt that you have to take out to remove the pads. I will probably try that when i have some time and a spare caliper incase i stuff it up.
