Default Another Biker Down

Saw my first downed bike on the way home last night.

I'd left late (after 5:30) and with a certain sense of foreboding. I don't know whether it had something to do with that post about the american guy who lost control and hit an oncoming car or if it was to do with not knowing what the 5:30 shift traffic was like...

There were less cars on the road which I was happy about but what I found is they tend to drive more like loonies than when the traffic's heavy.

I'd just got past the limehouse link turnoff on the A13 when up ahead on the bend the traffic was being ushered over into the inside lane. Police and ambulance present. The ambulance was just being shut up but I glanced in front of the ambulance as I went past and there was a yellow nekkid bike (i didn't have time to confirm WHAT bike it was tho) on the deck, light still on. It looked a bit bashed from what I could see.

I hope the rider was ok...

In all I passed 3 ambulances attending the scene of an accident last night. I think I'll stick to the 5 o'clock shift and the heavy traffic...

sad news. it scares me how random they are too. its just luck if u hit an on coming lorry when u crash, or if u just land and hit nothing at all.

i hate that.

yeah, luckily i was on an empty road, but still, if i'd have gone right instead of left i'd have hit a house instead of a grass verge and a light wooden fence.

sad to say this but get used to it if you commute in london....

especially in winter... bike accidents are frequent in rush hour traffic...or any time in london thinking about it there was a week I came in and saw a bike/car accident on my commute in at least once every day... - not all serious ones requiring ambulances fortunately but it does make you so much more aware of your vulnerability.

just take it easy out there...

I passed the accident about 5:50pm, and saw the yellow bike, the rider seemed OK although in abit of discomfort. The paramedics were at the scene and were taking care of him.
