raising tail - SV650.org

I had my bike on its paddock stand over the weekend and stood back for a break...i noticed that with the backwheel those extra couple of inches off the ground the bike looks "sportier"

Is there a way to make the tail section it up higher or would it really stuff the hadnling?

Sorry, I dont know how to make it look like that for the road....

Its the dogbones (suspension linkages) that raise it up...

can't remember if they need to be shorter or longer, Brains gone to mush

makes the steering sharper... Its on my list of planned mods, I want to raise it an inch but gonna wait until I get a replacement shock first and do it together.

shorter dogbones, not longer ones.
It will sharpen the steering, but there are other potential problems. I'm sure somebody who knows more about suspension than me will be able to fill you in on those.

Raising the rear of the bike by fitting shorter dog-bones will speed up the steering and make the bike more flickable - I really noticed the difference when I did this as my bike had been steering like a battleship.

The only minus points are that it can sometimes be a bit too flighty and you'll also have more weight on your wrists - but that might not be a problem if you're taller than me at 5'11".

Speak to SVMania. Think they sell the dogbones. Got some from them for my old Bandit 6 - made it look much better and it was much easier to turn.

It will make the steering quicker, but most of the racers stick the rear as high as they go on the SV (aftermarket shock with ride height), and some drop the front too, without it becoming unstable.

I've got the rear up, eh, significantly (don;t know how far, it was originally 20mm but I've got no idea now) using dogbones and shock adjustment and the front down 10mm and while it's less stable it's never been an issue...

Does anyone know what the stock distance is from ground to, say, the brake light screws on a carbed SV? That way I could find out what I'm running now, that'd be good to know

There's another option, of simply raising the subframe with spacers (or with a bit of welding) which gives you the higher tail without affecting the geometry at all.

Dogbones alone can have strange effects on the suspensin effects, I understand, since it changes the angle of the dogbones and subsequently the amounts of shock movement needed for a given amount of wheel movement. As you can probably tell, I don't actually understand this at all

there's a fella on here from NI who did this and it raised the rear 60mm. I think he's called daddy sperm or something?

I raised mine, I'm 5' 8" so can still get my feet on the ground sorta.
Flicks from side to side like a RGV250 I once fell in love with.
Bars shake a little on exit of a bumpy corner but loosen the grip and ride through it.
Cants you forward onto the bars a little more so if you're hassled by the stock position on your wrists I won't suggest it.
