OK I know this should really go in the tyre section, but I'm hoping I'll get a quicker resposne here
I need a new front tyre, my rear tyre is a 020 and has a lot of life left in it and I dont want to replace both as I cant afford it at the moment I am thinking about metzler z6 or a continental road attack after wading through the tyre section My question is this : Is is safe to put either the Metz or the conti on the front and leave the 020 on the rear or am I better off putting another bridgestone on the front till the back has worn out and then replacing both with either the Z6 or road attack thoughts ???? Cheers all

I have a new MEZ6 on mine and was told not to mix tyres (MEZ4 on rear) by several main dealers/gurus etc. In all probability it would be 'safe' up to a point I guess (hard riding etc.)
But my Thundercat had a pirelli and a hankook!!!!! and it seemed ok......go figure ![]() |

u have to run same tyres mate front and rear, just do it when ur feeling flush, or maybe a mate would buy either a front or rear off u. u have to run same front and rear, and i think it fails an MOT if u dont.
Im same as u mate, got a 020 on rear and front is shaged so im gona just get a 020 front for £60, i think thats the best thing to do. Tho i would like to know what super sticky road use rubber u guys would use if money was no object? Oh and what size is on the rear on the 650? my 400 runs and 160/60/17 what does the 650 run? |

I'm pretty certain it's not an MOT failure to mix and match - only if you mixed crossply with radials (and who uses crossply's except vintage bikes??)
Anyway, from my understanding, if you are mis-matching tyres, always have a stickier front tyre. Not sure what out of your choice of tyre has best grip.

I think you're wrong about the MOT failure, as well. It's generally preferred to have matching tyres, but it's certainly not an absolute. |

Just like choosing your tyres in the first place, you've got to be careful in your choice. |
