Default Position!

Three time today my toes have caught the roads on bends. OK I was bit faster/lower than I normally go but it was a bit disconcerting.

I know I should have the balls of my feet on the pegs but I tend to use my instep as it is somewhat difficult to change gear without shifting my foot. and as a result my toes tend to be under the gear lever.

Any advise except change foot position or don't bank it over as much.

Why would you need to be changing gear when you're banked over that far?

Change your foot position I would say

I hate riding with the instep of my foot on the pegs it doesnt feel right

unfortunatly the answer here is the cheap option but the one you didn't want to hear, change your foot position. Not only will you have more control over the bike by using the balls of your feet but you will have more feedback too. you will fing that if you are riding that little faster it will actually make it easier to move around the bike and put it in the part of the road that you want, also if you are trying to get your knee down this will help.

Agreed it does help with this, as for getting your knee down well I havent tried that yet so I wouldnt know

I find it gives you more leverage and its easier to put more pressure on the pegs to help the bike turn when you are gong quickly

you could get a nice pair of Gilles or Harris rearsets, bit pricey but do give a bit more clearance. But same as everyone else - change your foot position and short shift before you go in to a corner if necessary, don't change on the lean

you'll wear your toesliders out after a while and they're a bu99er to find replacements for. You might in-advertantly change up a gear half way round a corner if you're unlucky too - not good.

I have fat legs, my instep also resides on the pegs, it's often that my toe scrapes in corners.

the only occasion I have found it necessary to shift when leaned over is coming out of a certain few increasing radius corners. my solution is to flip the shift linkage upside down so that I have GP shifting (1up/5down)

takes getting used to, be careful for brain farts that have you downshifting back into 1st @ 70mph intsead of up into 3rd (at least twice, I have allowed my engine to rev to 14,000+)
