The acumen one is also sold at toad, datatool and other other names. There is one guy on ebay selling them for 20 and they are exactly the same as the acumen one. I have it, but not installed yet.

Only have the pager addon installed if you:
1) Ride the bike every day 2) Keep the bike on a charger when not ridden I only mention this as the pager addons seriously drain the battery. I have the datatool pager alarm and if I don't ride my bike for a week the battery is dead as a dodo (well not quite, but you can't start the bike on the button). I've also found it's not the most reliable of devices, I can set the alarm off and the pager not "page" me for quite some time later. |

I have one and have to say they work quite well.
The range is dependant on how/where you mount the transmitter, although I wouldn’t expect more than 400 metres to be honest. In fact in Central London I can just about get from the M/C bay at the end of Broadwick St. to Hamleys, see here. Now that would be no more than 200 metres but obviously it’s a heavily built up area so I don’t think it’s that bad. The pager does have a range check which goes on for 5 minutes after you turn off the ignition, letting you get to where you were going and then checking to see if you’re still in range, but after the 5 minutes you have no idea if you are in range or not, which can be annoying. It is quite simple to unplug the connector if you’re worried about draining your battery, and they are heavy on the battery so that’s not a bad idea if you do not ride your bike even for a few days. The only false alarms I’ve had were when I got to the boundary of the range, I think the pager struggles to pickup the correct signal when it’s pushed to the limit. I’ve never had problems with the pager not going off though. For £20 it’s worth getting and I personally think you would be mad not to have one if your bike is alarmed, the alarm is no good to you if you don’t know it’s going off. I would say the instructions are not that good though so you may want to get someone who knows what they’re doing to install it instead of destroying your alarm trying. |
