After a lovely day yesterday on the SWB ride out, I settled down to do some serious study (assignment due in tomorrow and I haven’t started it yet! Doh!)
I suddenly hear my alarm going off, I started to go down stairs and it stops so I’m imagining kids playing to close, etc. Then it goes off again. My friend Mark tells me somebody has knocked it over!?! A car reversed into it and knocked it over! I couldn’t believe it. Its parked just outside my house on a private bit of land, clearly visible (even with a “man working” sign behind it!). Unfortunately to say a women was behind the wheel and she just didn’t see it. She was clearly embarrassed by the whole thing and has agreed to pay for any damage but as like most non-bikers they don’t realise how much damage to our machines can cost. It has bent the clutch leaver and seems to have loosened the mechanisms, scratched the handle bar end, the mirror casing and every panel on that side. My hugger that was only fitted Friday and my tank were missed. I’ll be damned if I have to put up with scratched panels or almost good as new paint job. I want the best as the rest of the bike is in really good condition. I’m still in shock, I’m just glad I put some miles on it yesterday when I had the chance, will get an estimate for work tomorrow and will have to wait and see what happens. ![]() ![]() |

i dont believe it....
seriously, sorry to hear that. damn shame. for some reason ive been noticing more women in nice cars driving badly. maybe its the time of year or something, its making me into a very defensive driver which i guess is probably a good thing. try to get her to admit liability offically, written down or something. that way she cant change her mind when she realises just how much its gonna cost. good luck ![]() |

You did note down her details, reg number, etc, didn't you?
Hope she's got insurance, coz, like Wiltshire7 said, it always costs more than they think.......... ![]() |

TBH I was so in shock if my friend Mark hadn't been there I probably wouldn't have any details at all. I've got her name, address and telephone number which is just across the road from us plus she was visiting her sister.
Hopefully she won't change her mind about admitting liability. |

![]() A mate of mine had the same thing happen to his FZ1. It had to be written off though. |

sorry to hear about this natasha - my pristine sv was pushed over in a london square last august, which dented the tack (now rusty) and ripped up the seat (now mouldy)! It's gutting.
hopefully, your repairs won't be extortionate, and hopefully the driver will look properly when moving her car in future! |

The point of getting official acceptance of liability is a good one. When I was in the cage a while ago. Driving down the road minding my own business, when I notice a car "parked" across the middle of the road. She had come out of a garage forecourt on the opposite side of the road and wanted to cross the road a drive in the direction I was going, but for whatever reason she wasn't moving. I approached slowly, seeing that she was otherwise engaged doing something or other I carried on. As I got level with her she started pulling out. I swerved so far to the left that I actually went up the kerb. She still drove into the rear off side door.
I stopped got her details and offered to her that she could settle without involving the insurance companies. She said she would have to ask her husband as it was his car and his insurance. I phoned him later that evening and explained to him what happened. He agreed to pay out without involving the insurance company and asked me to get an estimate of the damage. When I gave him the estimate he then decided that it was too expensive and would have to go through the insurance after all. Not a problem, so rang my insurance company and started the process. Next thing I know is I have a letter from his insurance company wanting ME to pay for his damage. A few calls to my insurance and find out that the driver said that I had signalled that she could pull out and then carried on driving. The end of the story is that I lost my no claims and had 50% blame attributed to me. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The point I am trying to make is that even though at the time she accepted liability, it meant nothing to the insurance company because I had no proof. ![]() ![]() ![]() I claimed my own revenge in the end and I'm not telling how, but it cost him dear. ![]() ![]() |
