Default Clutch Lever Adjustment

Hi Guys,

can you tell me the easiest way to move the clutch lever nearer the grip, it seems a mile away from where it should be, would be nice if it was as easy to adjust as the brake lever!

Take it off and bend it. Seriously.
K apparently does that, so she may be along shortly to help you.
There are ways to fit a spanning lever to the clutch, which would obviously solve the problem.

I've got small hands for a bloke, but I've found the clutch is very light and easy to use - if the cable is lubricated properly. It made a world of a difference to mine.

Just back the adjuster off a bit, the lever will now be closer to the 'bar.
Of course this reduces the clutch lift, (but then so does an adjustable lever), don't go too far or you'll get a draggy clutch.

Or go the whole hog and fit an adjustable lever like this http://www.sv650.org/sv_faq.htm#adjustable clutch lever

In reply to PBX's post, I'm not sure why people want to fit the adjustable lever assembly, if you want the lever closer to the bar, slacken the adjuster off a bit.
Some might say that the clutch will not now be in correct adjustment, but think about that. If, for sake of argument, moving the lever 1" pulls the cable 1/4", if the lever is set at 3" from the bar when released, and you pull it right back then the cable will move 3/4", however you arrange the adjustment if the lever is closer to the bar when released then the cable is pulled less, this clearly includes if you use an adjustable lever as well.
As long as the clutch lifts enough, whatever adjustment you arrange will be fine. Enough being defined as the amount at which the clutch is disengaged, and there isn't any drag, which leads neatly to the question:

Not dumb at all, for a demo do this:
Start engine, pull clutch in a bit - say halfway - push gear lever down to try and engage first gear, difficult? OK now pull the lever all the way in and get first gear, slowly and gently release the lever until the bike is just pulling forwards, now without moving the clutch lever at all try to get neutral, difficult?
These are two of the obvious outward effects of clutch drag, that is the clutch does not lift far enough to fully disengage the drive, there are other effects that may not be immediately obvious, such as clutch and gearbox wear, and in extreme cases possibly even damage to other parts because of the extreme heat caused by the friction of the clutch always driving a bit.
The opposite of clutch drag is clutch slip, this where the clutch can't pass all of the force placed on it and some drive is lost, this may be caused by incorrect adjustment or wear in the clutch parts.
