So after waiting ages for the rain to dry up today I get out to change the oil on my bike as it's turned black.
So I get my tools out and stick the bike on the stand after getting it warmed up and then the nightmare began. I just couldn't undo the oil drain plug, no matter how hard I tried, I even sprayed loads of wd40 on it to try and free it up a bit. I spent an hour cursing the thing and ended up with blisters on my hand but still it didn't shift, not even a millimetre. I didn't have a breaker bar or anything else I could use but I guess that would be difficult anyway as you still have to hold the socket on to the plug. So anyone else had this problem on an SV and has anyone got any tips on undoing the plug? Oh and before anyone asks I don't know if it was tightened up to the correct torque as the only time the oil was changed was at the first service. |

Okay this really shouldn't be on too tight. Therefore (and excuse me asking) are you sure you were 100% definitely undoing it rather than screwing it further into the engine crankcase?

Although I won't be there at Soho on Friday I'm sure the good services of Sid Squid or Rictus could determine what's what and could quite probably undo it a half turn (14mm bolt?).

It cannot be that tight, it only screws into soft toffee like alloy. Have you got a proper fitting 14mm socket on it? not the rubbish suzuki call tools.
Lay on the right hand side of the bike with your head near the back wheel and pull the socket towards you, give it a tap with the palm of your hand if needed. |
