Default maniac learner - this aint funny either!!!!

I sometimes sit and think about my driving and tell myself I must slow down, the way I ride is too dangerous. However I went with my friend to get his new gixer today and I feel amazingly better about myself, the man is a maniac and an accident waiting to happen.

Hes not a close friend but I know him fairly well and didnt mind going with him to get his bike. So anyway he pays the money ( a private sale ) and we are ready to go and im thinking hes going to take it easy, his last bike was a 125 and his experience on a 600 is zero....but no.

he goes full throttle off through the country lanes at speeds im not even comfortable doing, 100, 110, 120, ... I needed to catch him to tell him to stop! we go through a fast right followed by a fast left, he ran really wide and not too far off the path of an oncoming car. So im thinking now hes gonna slow down? no.

he continues to rag the **** out of this gixer, until we get to a series of really sharp bends that lead up onto the M20. By this time im still trying to catch him to tell him to slow the f*ck down before he kills himself, I was genuinely concerned from the mintute we left. It was a long sharp right ( 2 lanes ) , then a sharp left. I had my knee down on the floor for the right then again for the left. Im still not catching him and im doing 70ish but then I see hes carried way too much speed into the left, he careers off the road onto the grass in a cloud of dust and somehow kept it together very narrowly missing smashing into the hard shoulder. I thought he was a goner.

So now im thinking hes gonna slow down and must of **** himself but what does he do? gets back on the road without stopping, kanes his bike from the slip road onto the M20 up to 160mph!

Now im more than concerned im trying to chase him down and get him to stop watching him make mistake after mistake, hes undertaking all the cars in the slow lane at no less than 130 and there are cars pulling onto the M20 from the sliplane, he swerves to miss them and cuts up a golf again a near death miss!!!!! soooo close!

After that I left him, I didnt want to endanger myself any further trying to get him to stop. Anyway I arrive at the pub ( where we were both going ) and hes standing there braggin to everyone about how GREAT he is at riding a bike.

Hes so going to crash that gixxer, im almost certain its not a question of if but when. What can I do about it?

I feel very sorry that you had to endure all of that. He was very selfish endangering your life and probably someone else's. he should not have put you through all of that when you were only doing him a favour.

There is not a great deal that you can do about it.
tell him that he was very stupid and dangerous and that he should get used to the bike first and that you thought he was a PR1CK in front of those mates. Make him feel two foot tall.

Then let him learn the hard way and don't go on any rides with him.

I know this sounds harsh but I am concerned about you and other people and not him.
HE WILL LEARN and GOOD LUCK.

IMHO There is little u can do they are too many @rseholes on the public highway who care not for other road users, i had a near punch up with a rider at a hg store last week. He was some one i know but not a friend much like the person in your story, hes always on about how good a rider he is & how he thinks cops are sucm (a view i do not share). anyway cos he got this new bike he built himself after crashing his last one while speeding . i said the rear of the bike was a little unslghtly (there was just a bare sub frame. He took offence to this & tried to knock me over while on his bike by riding fast along side me & putting his elbow out but i moved to the side & he hit an old man. not to hard he managned to brake a bit before, the upshot is the old man reported him to the police as did i he now has points for careless driving.

Anyway my point is & dont take offence i would shop my own mother for careless driving & maybe for this ****'s & the public's safety maybe you should file a police report on him, he need not know it was u , i live only min's from the M20 & if i saw sombody riding like u describe i would pull over & call the police asap.

as i said imho so dont all start getting upset cos this my opinion which i am entitled to.

jeez thats one hell of a trip! from what you said he's an accident waiting to happen alright, the only thing i think you can do is to tell him he's riding leaves a lot to be desired. i very much doubt it will stop him, but at least your conscience will be clear

i would go on any ride-outs with him and im sure you shant be again either!

I wouldn't have tried to keep up if I wasn't comfortable. Just let him go. Part of the reason (I'm guessing) he was going so fast is because he could see you in his mirrors. Let the **** go. Tell him he is a **** and leave it at that. There is little else you can do. He has to learn for himself. People like that will not be told.

some people are beyond help.

unforunately the cemeteries are full off them.

its bad that you had to see him do this, i genuinly worry for some people when i see how they ride.

the main problem is , hes likely to involve some innnocent passerby/rider/driver in his accident.

why do people equate riding fast with riding well, surely if the bike riding you id doesnt class as skill

Unfortunately there are many riders like this out there. Perhaps they even accept the fact that they might get hurt or badly injured - but I'm sure it doesn't even cross their mind that they might do the same to an innocent bystander!

Tell him he's a *****. Tell him you will not ride with him again, until he tidies his act up, and that you will recommend others do the same.

This is why I don't ride alongside TSM

Agreed. I would have actually stopped or at least dropped out of sight. He may have been trying to 'lose you' to show off.
