Default throttle response

I own a K4 and only done approx 2.5k miles with a full Akro titanium on while my mate owns a K3 with about 18k miles stock!.

The issue i have is, my mates bike revs quicker and smoother with a slight flick of the wrist. mine is bubbly and very rough (sometimes stalling) and doesnt get as many revs with the aprroximate same twist of the throttle.

Is this to do with my bike in desperate need of a tune? I would like to upgrage the filter too, what is the best filter recommendation and how much would it cost for the conversion, does this need a tune as well as i remember reading something about that.

Many thanks

3 things to pay attention to:

1) Idle speed, should be about 1300-1400 rpm. Any lower, and it's possible to stall when blipping the throttle.

2) Throttle balancing - similar to carb balancing, but with the throttle bodies. If the bike sounds lumpy at idle, then this is very likely the culpret.

3) Finally... Yoshi tune.

any recommendations to a suitable upgrade for an airfilter? do you have to buy the complete box as well. or will a K&N replacement filter do the job with a tune?

Cheers

The K&N one does the job nicely, but then you really will be in need of the tune!

I agree.

Although I did it with a PowerCommander and got a custom map setup on a dyno.

It certainly made my throttle response better

I'm presuming you didn't get it remapped when you fitted the system? If so, I bet you a pound that's your culprit. You can't change the air/fuel equation like that without having fuelling consequences.
