Hi all
Going to pick up my new SV650S next week, I bought a genuine suzuki restrictor kit that reduces the power output (second hand) - as per the terms of my recently passed test. I've been told that it takes a few minutes to fit, just plugs into the HDI unit (or something like that)? Where is this found on the bike, will I need an tools etc to get to it? I have the restrictor sat in front of me now and it is just a little black box with a plug on it. Is it sufficient just to have this plugged in, or do I need to go and get the bike tested and certified to prove the power output is reduced. As you can guess I have absolutely no technical ability whatsoever! |

Physically all you need to do is swap it with the box that looks identical which is under the rider's seat. Undo the bolts either side on the plastic panels then the two holding the seat down and you can see it behind the battery. Just unplug it and swap.
Legally, that's another issue and not one I know anything about since it's never affected me. The dealer's and police view on here is that you need to buy a brand new restrictor kit and have it properly fitted for it to count. Some people have assured us that their insurance companies are fine with it so long as it is actually fitted. The real issue is that of driving within the limits of your license, |

Oh, and welcome to the forum, what colour is your bike? Another blue one I bet.
Oh, and it's an ECU on a fuel injected bike. Older carb based bikes used a CDI unit, which looks similar. |

The topic of 'legitimate' restriction incites a lot of comments around here and none that are solid concrete as we found out a month or so back. I'll not go into the whole debate but i assume your talking pointy so the ecu is under the riders seat. remove the seat, unplug the old ecu and plug retarded/ restricted one in.
You then have to get proof of restriction and this is where the arguement starts. Dyno/ installation certificate anything else that proves BHP output. Consult insurance and ask what they'll accept as proof. Someone on here got away with a dyno printout, others had to get certificate... it apparently varies ![]() |

![]() ![]() Welcome to the site, enjoy your new bike and if I was you I would get if fitted and the certificate sorted then nobody can be in any doubt that you are nice and legal. Thats just what I would do though. Oh and if anybody asks yellow ones are harder to park, ask Carsick or E.d. ![]() ![]()
