Default New Biker needs help!

Hi there!

I'm new to this forum, but have been guest for quite a while.
Currently own a Honda CB-1 and looking to move on.

I need to know how you tell what year the bike is? I'm looking for a New Suzuki SV650S 2005 model but I know a lot of dealers trying to sell old 2004 stock as 2005 models. So what do you need to look at on the frame numbers, to tell what year the bike is? And where are the frame number stamped?

Cheers

telling the difference between a 2004 and 2005 bike is easy. The 2005 has a black frame, the 2004 has a silver one.
If you want to tell the difference between a 2004 and a 2003, it's a little less obvious, but still easy. The 2004 only has an S on the tank, the 2003 has Suzuki.

Hope that helps, and good luck with it.

Welcome.

Will you be keeping the CB-1? Fab bikes which make great winter hacks as they get older.

Hi Guys

Should I be able to tell by looking at frame numbers? Are they stamped like K1, K2, K3 etc? I prefer to recongize a bike by looking at the numbers printed on the frame. Sure a bike can be told what year is it by looking at frame numbers

Oh and just to say i will be keeping the CB-1 and will be getting another one, cos these bikes requires skill and thats where my foundations lays. I took mine to scotland on a 1500 mile non-stop trip not long ago. Before that I had a slide on it and bent the forks! But i'm still going for an SV650S for fun and I like its sharp looks. Generally speaking, people say the SV650 is a step down (less skill needed) as oppose to step up in motorcycling. But purely i just wanna a big bike, so thats why i'm going for the SV!

Cheers

Haven't looked into the frame numbers, but since you will know before you've even found the vin plate, what's the need?

also if ur woried about what year the bike is, get it printed on the receipt when u buy one. that way u can take it back if u find out its wrong. otherwise u could be stuck with it.

i doubt someone will try to sell u a different model to what u ask though. Just keep in mind what carsick has said about the visual differences.

I agree with carsick, why make the situation more involved than it need be? He has outlined the exact things to look for.

For the record I bought a brand new SVS last year but opted for a 2003 model as I wanted silver.

I think it's the other way round, but that's a little awkward to look for. Also, the situation is even more confusing amongst the nakeds of various years and if you look at the thou as well.
