No we're not talking the crappy music!

Who claims in their insurance policy that their bike is garaged but in fact... It's not

I'm in the process of amending my policy to cover my CBR and it knocks my premium down about £250 but i haven't got a garage.

I would be honest... not what you want to hear I know. Yes you save money now, but the insurers are unlikely to pay out in the event of a claim

Have you got space or the budget for one of these? http://www.motoeurope.com/bikesafe.html

Good luck!

Possible future phone conversation,

"So your bike was parked overnight at your home address?"
"Yes"
"It wasnt garaged at the time?"
"No"
"Why wasn't it garaged at the time?"
"er"
"Can I just remind you that you are required to take reasonable precaution to prevent theft of the vehicle as outlined in your policy. Is it normally garaged at your home address?"
"er"
"Can I just make an appointment for one of our assessors to visit?"
"er"

Most insurers will stipulate that if the bike is parked within a specified distance of your home address, but not garaged then they will not be liable for any theft claim.

Mine's only an increased excess within 0.5mile of home if stolen ungaraged at night. But they might get uppity if they visit and you clearly have no garage at your address as thats providing incorrect information.

Good point. I should of course have added that this is a condition of my policy (& previous policys) and that my post is not BASAT approved.

Does mum/dad/mate nearby have a garage ?? it's possible to say it's kept in theirs on policy. If it does get nicked outside your house, then you'll only pay upped excess.

"is your bike normally garaged at the provided address ??"
"yes"
"why wasn't it on this occasion"
"My ..... lost their garage keys and my neighbourhood's safer than his"
"oh, we'll send an assesor out then"

Feel free to elaborate a story just make sure person knows it's supposed to be there and there's enough room for it to fit. It'll look funny if the garage is full of junk and a push iron won't fit in it.

I'm moving soon and building a 2.5m x 4m breeze block shed for a little under £150 in garden.

Depends how you store the bike, my garden is considered to be a locked compound as it's only accessible by key. I believe some insurers also cover any structure with a decent lock as a garage.

To echo the others, £250 saved now will not help when the insurance refuce to pay out. Do you have parents or friends nearby with a garage? Try insuring it at their place and it *may* save you hassle ....

For some reason known only to her. the wife has a fridge and freezer in MY garage. her and the kids keep going in to get food out of the freezer. (The fridge is for beer so thats allowed) but they leave it open and when they shut the door never bother to lock it.

They moan like **** whenever I lock it as some scroat has already tried the lock and it is now a tad difficult to unlock.

Their argument is that instead of a gate at the front of the house I have a 4ft fence panel which bolts between the houses and is locked so nobody is going to lift my precious bike over that.

Bollox, my insurance says LOCKED garage and the XS is double if the bike goes from the garage. So anchor chain is also applied when parked up in garage
