Default compensation from suzuki?

just wondering if anybody has ever got any compensation from Suzuki due to problems with their bike?
any advice welcome
i brought my k5 on 1st july and the first week it was fine then on 9 july the speedo developed a fault (speed kept changing ie doing 30mph then speedo would read random numbers) so i took it to my dealer (who are being really helpful) and they ordered a part for me so i took the bike in to be serviced on the 16 july and have the part fitted and it still has'nt been fixed so on monday i took the bike to the dealers and have left it with them, suzuki don't know what the problem is and just keep telling the dealer to try things.
today the dealer phones up and says that they are ordering a new speedo head now so the bike has got to be left there untill next week (due to the part not getting there to probably monday) now and they still don't know if that is going to fix the problem.
so todate had the bike 3 weeks and only used it for about 5 days
also when i picked the bike up the tank was damaged so i am waiting for a new tank as well.
i brought the bike for the summer and at this rate it will be over.
sorry for going on
Mark

No expert in these things (others on here are! ), but basically your "contract" is with the Dealer, not Suzuki, so they are the ones to tackle.

The goods have to be of "merchantable quality" and "fit for purpose", which if you can't ride it because of a fault it certainly isn't.
As a consumer you have the right to decide what is done up to a point, but with motor vehicles the line is drawn slightly differently to, for example, a toaster.

Generally the Dealer should be given reasonable opportunity to effect a repair for what are relatively trivial faults (i.e. both the speedo and tank can be perfectly solved by replacing them with good ones).

If they don't fix it you still have the right for a replacement or refund.

Your issue about inconvenience is a more tricky one. Could be a case of negotiating a "credit note" with them for spares/accessories (that doesn't cost them so much).

Worth talking to Trading Standards just to get an idea of where you stand.

If all else fails your final resort is the Small Claims route in the County Court, but you need to do your homework carefully before taking that route on this sort of inconvenience issue.

I would push them for a decent loan bike until the problems are sorted, politely explaining that they can either do this or you'll make a claim in the small claims court for loss of use.

It's not the dealer's fault and I'm sure they want it sorted as much as you do, but a bike for you to ride and enjoy the summer is the way forward.

My new Sv arrived with a noticeable scratch on the fairing.I was not at all impressed for goodness sake it's a new bike! I have to say though the fairng was replaced in about 7 days with no hassle.I dont understand how dealers can allow a bike to be handed over for a new owner with any kind of obvious flaw?

Going off at a tangent I recently bought a new Ford Focus and immediately I found one screw about to fall out of the front number plate, scratches in the bonnet and one door paintwork and the front valance looked like it had been ground with a power tool! Instantly noticeable by me, so why not by those prepping the car? Ridiculous!

Maybe not, but I'll guarantee they have a stock of second hand ones in the showroom, just go pick one .

I would say they are duty bound to provide you with a replacement bike while yours is in the shop. I'm sure any half decent dealer would anyway.
