I'm toying with the idea of getting one of the new SV650s (the naked models)
How does it handle over long distances, especially in the comfort department? Also, how long do you tend to get between stops for fuel? My trusty Honda gets around 120 miles before a topup is needed, unless I'm caning it. DOes the SV get the same kind of economy? |

The SV will return about 130/140 to a tank full... Unless you've had it tweaked, then maybe 90 miles if you're really flying

![]() The reality is that there's bugger-all in it. And for the record, I rarely get less than 140 miles to the fuel light - around 13 litres used giving about 49mpg. As for the original question about the naked SV and long distances..... I can't talk about the SV, but I find my Hornet OK. Motorway miles are bit of a pain above about 85mph for long periods but long distances themselves aren't a problem as such. |

I've had my naked SV650 [completely stock no mods yet] for a few weeks now and I'm a tall 6'2". I find that I get a bit of a sore **** when I have done over70 miles, however I have found that if you are better padded, {wear more clothing} then you can do longer.
I find that at speeds over 80 when there is no shelter, the wind takes quite a bit of getting used to [noise wise and buffering] and therefore I am going to get one of those detatchable fabri screens for when I do longer distances. I have done a total of 672 miles and have paid £49.41 for petrol in that time. Normally I pay 87.9p per litre That's 56.2litres = 12.4 english gallons Therefore 54.3 MPG on average for me. However I am still riding a bit cautiously until I get used to the bike, I'll bet a few on here get much less than that with a bit of redlining antics.. ![]() |

Yeah Randy, I have a few pairs of cycle shorts and I'm gonna try that on my next long ride. I think It's a great idea.

Mine's a Scurvy. Last year, I commuted between Skipton and Whitby each day; 180 miles the round trip, mixed roads at reasonable speeds, about 1hr 30 mins each way. I filled up each night at Tesco's, meaning about 58mpg (ish).
Cruised down the A1 to London last year, never dropping much below 85, and the consumption increased to about 120 miles to the tankfull. What impressed me though was, apart from a bit of @rse numbness and some tingle in the fingers, the neck and shoulder ache from wind blast was very limited. (Not BASAT, AA, NAACP, PDSA or ISO compliant). |

I have a fully faired k5 and have done 130 miles non stop and found the seat comfy but i find the seating position of the naked version hurts my butt after 50 miles! Hate the windblast over 80 on a naked bike but on my bike it feels steady and comfy doing over a ton
Have no idea what mpg i get....not something i bother checking |

got a sv 650k4 faired model which has been tweaked a little. a few weeks ago i travelled from hastings to the skerries (above dublin) -410 miles then the following day up to bushmills, co. antrim -140 miles and then after a bit of running about i went to larne - 50 miles caught a ferry to cairnryan (scotland) and drove the 440 miles back to hastings at a fair speed (between 85 -100 mph) in constant rain. about £8.50 - £10.00 per 100 miles. i would never do it again!!!!!!! i have a full akrapovic race system with power commander and airbox mods by jhs racing and the noise gave me a horrendous headache, even with ear plugs! and the rearsets (jhs racing again!) nearly crippled me. i found my wrists were aching like hell as well. mind you being a **** i had no waterproofs and had mild food poisoning just for good measure! bike never missed a beat though!
