Default sv or a bandit6 for a newbie?

my cusion is going to pass his test soon but hes torn between an sv or a bandit. ive owned both so i know what there like! what would you guy's and gal's say the pro's cons are of each bike to suit a new rider?
i think the bandit is a great bike but the sv had more grunt and wins in the personality dept aswell ! by the way hes 6,3" and 17 stone.

Both good bikes, with completely different characters. The only solution is a test ride. However I think you'll know what peeps on this forum will have to say on the matter .

i recomend the sv because the seat height is higher than the bandit.(well the new bandit 650 anyway)

I'm a similar height (but not weight!) and find the SV just right. I have a naked one which is more upright. He may find it slightly cramped on a faired one though.

You do realise that people have been banned for less outrageous remarks than that?

I had a Bandit for 2 weeks then bought an SV. Can't compare performance at the moment as I am stuck to 5k rpm but the Bandit wasn't slow although the lack of a screen was annoying.

At 6'3 and 17 stone this guy is a lot bigger than me (5'9 & 11st) so maybe the bigger and softer Bandit would suit him but I personally would take the SV everytime.

The Bandit does seem really dated compared to the SV.

Perhaps a Hornet or FZ6 is the best compromise.

TBH, the best compromise is the bike that he feels most comfortable on and which will suit the sort of riding he plans to do.

Despite my "hint" above, it might be that the Hornet is physically too small for him.

The Bandit is a very comfortable bike, but I personally would choose the SV.

Bit off the wall here, but as he's a big fella, something like a TDM might suit him better. Insurance is reasonable (same ball-park as F*zer or Hornet) and it's a really comfortable bike.
