Default New poster/biker looking for advice

Hiya all,

Although I've been mooching around the site for a few days now it's only now I've decided to post, the same day I book my DAS coincidently

Basically after 8 years driving (25 now) i'm looking at making the move from 4 to 2 and see the SV as an ideal first bike, my only worries so far being

a) Digging a huge hole in the driveway for the security, why did i get a conservatory again?
b) The fact that I'm a complete shortarse of only 5'6ish .... around a 28/29" inside leg.
c) I literally know next to nothing about anything bike related yet
d) How it's going to run/store in the wet as I intend to be using it all year round?

So really all I need is any advice that anyone cares to share about .... well.... anything really!!

In particular though about getting the SV lowered as I don't intend to crush my nuts everyday

...oh and kinda important is what I should be looking at paying for a new K5 S with lowers

Streetbike's got it advertised at £4599 otr + £399 for lowers ... aint tried haggling yet but wondered what was out there 'deal wise' to your guys knowledge?

looking at taking advantage of the 0% suzuki finance, never paid list price for anything over £100 in my life, don't intend to start now so distance aint an issue for a good deal

Don't worry about being a shortass... Stick blocks of wood on your boots

You should get an SVS K5 (if you shop around) for about £4,200 - be quick though, Suzuki reckon they're gonna run out of machines by September

for all year use, get a front fender extender to cut down on the water spray onto the front cylinder spark plug. The curvy carb ones probably suffered worse, but it's a common problem to later ones too. Around £17.

Also get a Scottoiler for the chain, cost around £70, straightforward to fit it yourself if you have basic skills and common sense It'll cut chain maintenance, cleaning, lubing, and adjustments down to a minimum and it'll last much much longer. Sounds expensive but they work and are worth it.

You'll need to use some sort of corrosion protection for winter use, FS365 from Scottoil is reputed to work reasonably well, others who do winter riding (I don't these days, been there.....) will advise.

Woo maybe another from my neck of the woods

I use mine in all weathers and it runs fine but you need to keep on top of keeping it clean or it will look shabby quick, I have been better with the SV than my first bikes but still should have cleaned it properly more often and it does look a little worse for wear in places. Winter salt is a bike killer.

StreetBike isn't the cheapest place I have seen, they have done some good deals down the M5 at Fowlers in Bristol in the past. I would have got mine from them but I managed to get my local dealer (Leeds at the time) to begrudgingly match the price.

Hi ya welcome to the site, i've had my k5 about 6 weeks now and got it lowered before i picked it up i am also a short ****, it lives ouside in a communal car park all weathers cos i use it every day and i know absolutely jack sh*t about bikes.

As for the price that sounds about right if your goin for the 0% deal you probably won't get much better than that

could always park the bike in the house

b) The fact that I'm a complete shortarse of only 5'6ish .... around a 28/29" inside leg.

im 5'4 and can still touch down on an Sv - you could get the seat resculptured .. . i paid 80 quid for it and is well worth the money (later i find places doing it for as cheap as 30)

c) I literally know next to nothing about anything bike related yet

nor did i when i started riding a year ago.

d) How it's going to run/store in the wet as I intend to be using it all year round?

lots of people do (including myself)
might add that i got a CBR tho .,

Welcome to the site BTW

Was ideally looking to get the bike and the lowers for the £4600 ... also know that you can get upto a grands worth of 'extra's with the 0% so gonna be spending more than that to start with but a good deal is a must!
.....psst any dealers here??
