I have a 2000 curvy model and was wondering how log I can ride, after the low petrol indicator has come on, before the petrol runs out. I have never tested this as my ride to work if fairly short and I haven't had the bike too long. I realise this will be different for each bike, how its ridden etc, but I just want a rough estimate as I am about to do a longer than normal ride and dont want to be paranoid as soon as the light comes on. I will be riding mainly twisty A roads.
Thanks. |

It really varies too much to say. Also, though, remember you get two warnings- a flsahing "low" and a solid "uh oh". Because of the tank spacers mine goes to "low" with nearly a quarter of a tank left, annoyingly, while "uh oh" doesn't seem much changed.

thats wot i did didge
thats wot we all do I think i zero mine every time.. then fill up when i have done 150 miles !!! ..simple as a simple thing..!! also it does not hurt to letit run down to the flashin amber- and just tootle round and round locally until it goes to on permanent- obvious zero when forst flashing- then u will know how many miles you have between flashing and solid !! at a steady pace..of course riding style etc will depreciate this figure but will give you an indication for when you are in an unknown area and not sure where petrol is!?? rule of thumb- if you are on a journey and in an area you dont know - fill up as and when you can ! dont let it run down low

I've done 40 miles from when the petrol light came on and not run out of gas! Reasonably quickly, but in a high gear so the revs aren't that high. I reckon there was still a litre of petrol in the tank as I only got 15 litres in it!

There alot that come with fuel gauges WelshWop, the only problem is that the bike is usually moving from left to right meaning the petrol inside is constantly moving and on a fuel guage this would give false readings.
While in a car, the car stays upright so a pretty accurate reading can always be made. Though it was fun on the old 125, if the bike ran out of fuel you had to lean over while moving and flick the switch to reserve ![]() |
