Default HELP....Bike won't start

Hey people,

I bought a 2000 SV650S tonight, when i got it home i turned it off, and a few minutes later went to start it again and it wouldn't start

I had thought that the lights were a bit dim before i got home. When i went to start the bike, it turned over for a second or 2 then just died and i heard a bit of a swirling noise.

Now when i go to hit the starter, there is a bit of a swirling noise and the lights die when i press the starter, anybody have any ideas?

I think its the battery, cos the bike hasnt been used regulary in a fair few weeks

Cheers

It was about a 40 mile trip home, but to be honest i had the revs low most of the way home trying to get used to it.

The guy i bought it off had started it every couple of days, but it hadnt been driven anywhere.

It also has a datatool alarm fitted, could this have drained the battery?

that should be enough to have put alot of charge in the battery

It does take some juice out of the barrery but not that much.
?
Sounds like the battery is goosed or maybe your rectifier pack in knackered.

when the bike was running did the Head light go dimmer on the drive home or stay full brightness? if full brightness then the gennerator is working, if not the gennerator still might be working but the battery is not taking any charge..

Im not sure to be honest. I think the bightness may have stayed the same.

I also THINK that when i pulled the front brake lever though, the headlights and tacho lights dimmed slightly

Does this still sound like the battery or has the rectifer packed it in?

If the engine was running at the time then it sound like ...
1) the battery is not taking any charge..and is knackered ( get it Discharged tested at a local garage - should only take about 5-10 seconds to tell - if the battery is left on charge over night and a low slow charge)
2) the rectifer pack is knackered and not giving the battery charge.

did the headlight go brighter at higher rev's ?

I knew people who knew the owner of this sv and a lot of its history and how well looked after it was and how it never gave any trouble.......then i have it an hour and it starts playing up.....just feel like the motorcycle gods dont like me or something !!!
Im sure it will be the battery, and since your getting one for free then the biking Gods will smile upon you and give you Great biking weather and a hassel free time with the SV.

so is it not normal that the lights/tacho go a tad dimmer when the brake lights come on?

Mine do that, has done it for as long as i can remember but it still starts fine every day.
