Default Trip Meter Problem

Hi guys, I have a 2001 SV650. Recently I have had a problem with the Speedo Trip Meter. The Trip meter works fine, (that is logs Klms on the move)but when the bke is left in the garage overnight the Klms registed on the trip meter are lost and the Klms read zero. I can ride to work and turn to bike off and on within a few minute or hours and the Klms on the Trip meter are held. But after riding home and leaving the bike in the garage overnight then turning on the bike next morning the Klms are lost again and show zero Klms. The Odometer works fine and holds Total Klms ok. Suzuki Australia have never had the problem before and could offer now help. Over to you guys for an answer.
Thanks in advance.
