Default Dragging pegs and other parts (suspension questions)

Hey all,

I saw plenty of talk about 650 suspension, but I'm riding an 05 SV1kS out here in SoCal (I used to think England had some nice roads, but some of the canyon roads here are unreal), but I'm a lardy bugger at 17.5 stone and I've started dragging pegs and even my sidestand on some of the turns here (pegs I don't mind, sidestand = bad).

Are there any standard tweaks I can make to the 1000 suspension to stop the bike squatting so much in the corners or do I need to look at getting new parts? Like maybe having the shocks resprung or replaced ? Any recommendations for replacements?

Thanks.

Alright smartarse :P

I could probably lose a couple of stone, but I'm 6'2" and built like a prop forward, I doubt losing another 25-30 lbs is going to make that big a difference when the bike is initially set up for some weedy 12 stone feller :P

ps. My blandit used to have the same problem, but then I was probably around 27 stone riding that

possably changing the rear shock to one more siuted to your weight? I think a GSXR 1000 shock is sprung more than the SV shock. Not sure though. Also look at possably getting a Hagon or such which is done specificly for your weight, i was quoted 255 uk pounds for one.

Again same with front springs for your weight.

Are there any other mfrs I should look at for shocks? The exchange rate at the moment means anything I buy from the UK costs an arm and a child.

I've never done any monkeying around with suspension before so I'm not sure what questions to ask, I'll try bending the ears of some yank riders I know and see if anyone knows the right answers.

Cheers.

I think that a standard gixxer thou shock has an almost identical spring rate, it's the damping that's better...could be wrong though.

Who would I contact about replacing the springs? Go through the local Suzuki dealer and have them strip the parts and send them off ?

Or would the dealer themselves be able to replace the parts if I brought my bike over with the springs?

Contact Progressive Suspension, they'll be able to advise you, they're in Hesperia, don't know how that relates to where you are.

Cheers Sid,

Hesperia is about 100 miles away, so practically next door insofar as US distances go.

I'll give them a call.

Edit: Called them, their customer service droid said they don't make anything for the 1000, I called the local zuki dealer and they're going to see how much a new rear spring runs.
