Default OUCH My speedo has died (really bad 15mins)

Ok so had the day off on Friday. The fairing had a crack so I took it off to glue it. Then I decided to clean the engine with Gunk. bike looks like new put it back togeather and polished. Checked all the lights etc apart from the little one on the front they all worked.

So went out for a ride all ok for about an hour then my speedo dies . Any Ideas?

The Bad 15mins. So the Speedo dies get back and I'm locked out, managed to get in to the garage from the side then open the door to let the bike in SMACK hits the bike small scratch on the fairing and light and the garage door comes off its runners *Bugger*

check fuse under the front seat, also check the connectors to the speedo on the rear and inline. Its possable something has fallen out or caused the fuse to blow.

Well, my speedo's just died... so I have no idea how fast Im going... the display itself still works, I do beleive that the fuze for the display is the same as the ignition, so your bike wont start either if its that fuze..

I have a feeling some little gubbin in the wheel has busted... so its in on wednesday for someone to look at it....

I had the little speedo rotor (little plastic gubbin thing on the front wheel) replaced the other day after the bloke at the tyre shop broke it. It only cost £15 but it had to be specially ordered in to the dealers as they dont keep it in stock. Only took about 5min to replace as well. Hope this info is useful...

Well its not the fuse and I dont think its the wires. However when checking the wires I did find a bit that had been cut and soldered back togeather but they had then taped all the solder bits togeather so I had hoped separating them would work. NOPE

I'm gonna take the front wheel off tomorrow and check it with a meter to see if the current is getting through if not its either the clocks or the gizmo in the wheel.

Hmmm. Interesting. Mine dies and ressurects itself all the time. Doesn't alter the running of the bike, just a pain in the butt. Anyone got any ideas?

Anymore info? Does it happen in cold, wet or hot weather?

I'll see if I come up with any ideas when I take mine apart later

Can happen anytime but usually when starting from cold, or if ragging it a bit! Speedo and tacho go at the same time or independently. Am totally baffled

My display gone too, it seems to work when it wants to (speedo, tacho, mileom, fuel light)

fitted a cycle computer for the time being and got a quote for a 2000 set, £110 + p&p

Was anyone found a solution for this problem as it seems common
